So, how hard is it to write a simple 3d model in notepad, like, just a simple cube with correct normals? Is there some kind of autismo grande scene that practices this? I can open .obj easy in notepad and look up the numbers, but shit like .fbx is mostly encoded. Where can I find more info on this?

why in the everloving fuck would you want to do this?

You can back to the Amiga days when we had games like say https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA3pTA2DNhc
The 3D editors available back then came with this tracepaper with pre printed coordinates so we could draw our models
on that paper and then look at the grid numbers to figure out where our vertices where at and enter the XYZ values into the computer by hand.

Back in those days there where people around that had memorized entire models and shapes because they had entered them in so often.

Nowadays one sometime create mesh at run time for various effects. Like I made a custom billboardsystem for tracer rounds that stretch and orient
so it looks like it's a true 3D volume based on camera angle not that long ago because the packaged particle system didn't support what we needed.

Regardless of what you use you can read this page on how you create runtime mesh in untity to get a feel for how one goes about it.

There's tons of situations where manipulating vertices thru code is how you solve something.
Say you wanna draw the trail of a laserpointer dancing across the wall, well you need to either have a trail renderer someone gave you that can
stick to the walls or you gotta write one yourself. Knowing how to do something yourself is always liberating.

Even if nobody has ever done the effect you need you can usually figure something out if you know the nitty gritty of the inner workings of these things

How could you ever call yourself a professional while not being able to model without a modeling software? At least be honest with yourself and call yourself a 3d user instead of 3d artist.

Of course it is possible to do so. THE ONLY QUESTION IS WHY. I know for a a fact that I can. But of course THE SOFTWARE EXISTS, NOTEPAD IS SOFTWARE TOO, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT??? FOR SOMEONE TO MODEL FROM THE COMMAND LINE??? WITHOUT THE COMMAND LINE???

Very much disliked how there's always a bunch of snarky ass people who inquire about the reason behind someone asking a question rather than provide an answer.

Worst is when you googling how to do something in a piece of software or a videogame and the answer is "unfortunately you can't do it"
and there's always some fanboi going "WHY do you even WANT that in X, you don't NEED it in X because: insert justification why not"

A geometric description file for RADIANCE that I wrote almost 30 years ago. You might recognize the output generated from it. ;o)

OP here. This is all utilizing scripts to generate mesh data. I clearly meant writing models (the mesh data itself) in notepad instead of using freak libraries. I literally mentioned opening .obj file in notepad and looking up it's structure. You guys are simply talking about using modeling software that doesn't have modern GUI.

I'm almost certain that the dudes who made Runescape did this for their models (or I read something like that). At least in OSRS. It's why things look so jittery.
