Anybody here knows how to create Pixar Elbow topology?

That's a serious question? Just do it is how you create it. Few knife cuts, few vertex merging... its a matter of seconds.

If you watch the video in the source, you'll see that the shapes deforms nicely. It makes it looking an elbow bone is protruding out just like how it is when we bend our elbows.

>>773501

Thank you.

Huh, I've been overcomplicating this in my head. Doesn't help that I avoid the knife tool like it's the worst thing in the world.

That looks like the worst piece of shit in existence.
>hur dur i will make this fucking mess of topology to get something that dosnt look like an elbow but like badly modeled elbow
Whats the fucking point? You cant make an elbow on a single bone, since human elbow dosnt bend at the bone tip, but the forearm bone extend further, so you need a second bone or a corrective blend shape.
Also why is it called "Pixar elbow"? I doubt they would ever use such messy topo on top of Pixar not exactly being known for their character complexity, most thing they make are disgusting humanoid blobs that have nothing resembling proper anatomy.

It's horrible topology. Hence the question.

I have no idea why it's called Pixar Elbow, it's just the name I got from the source. I can't find it anywhere else.

It can be a nice little detail on low poly models.

>It can be a nice little detail on low poly models.
No it wouldnt, since its fucking streaches like ass. Instead of distributing the poly distortion equally over the region it instead streaches out a single polygon while the reat does fuck all unless you smooth it out.
Why not look up real real time and movie topology? One people actually use?
They just add extra loops and ether accept the tube bends or create supportive bones and blend shapes. If you going for realism then add teh fucing extra bone and make a proper elbow bend

That is used in movies anon, the idea is you get your stretching terminating into a pole where your skin fold so it looks very similar to what the artifact looks like, it's really quite clever and obv the product of some seasoned artist who understood their topology and shadertech inside out.

>> No.773552

>>773520
It's not meant for lowpoly anon, it's intended to be used with subdivision. Here's a demo highlighting how this works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5Jksu5Z8AA&app=desktop

>> No.773555

>>773552
Even the first video shows interesting deformation with the pixar patch, its counterintuitive when modeling unsubdivided, but it gives good results in the end.

The biggest hurdle to 3d is 3d artists and their keen eye and high standards. Normies don't notice noodling or clipping for the most part.

>That is used in movies anon
Its not.
Movies can afford corrective blend shapes, extra bones, supporting loops, or topo so dense you can describe entire elbow with nice uniform quads.
Why use that mess instead when you have access to proper options?
Also again, stretching leads to unequal textel density which even in movies is a problem, we didnt start using UDIMS for fun...

>>773555
>, but it gives good results in the end.
It looks like ass before and after smoothing. Thats not how a human elbow looks. If you want to see topology magicians look up asian nurbs character modelers, they can create elbow looking low poly topology by ... fallowing the shape of an elbow, not by creating a series of random loops that smooth out into a point.

Im suffering from the "wtf am i reading" effect.

>> No.773618

>>773498
It's irrelevant at higher polygon counts. You can just paint the weight map in such a way that will achieve the same effect and also not create any texture stretching.

It's a clever trick but that's all that it is, just a trick. Too bad neither arms or legs are cylinders. Too bad neither the elbow or knee are just a protruding tumor. If you understand the physiology of the human body you will know why these sort of tricks are laughable.

This attitude is endemic in all amateurs.

>stumble across YT video with clickbait title
>video explains some random shit and presents it as some super-secret super-powerful technique that nobody knows about, while also having tens of thousands of views
>moron viewer thinks he's now qualified to get a job at Pixar because they'll be impressed about how super-knowledgeable he is about all the tricks in the biz

Every goddamn time this happens.
Every single time neither the creator of the video or the viewer of the video ever makes anything.
It's the equivalent of "Earn 5k/month extra using this simple trick! Only 1 in 10 people know about it! Subscribe to my channel! Buy my book! Get special access to my upcoming video on how to make 10k extra a month!"

Look at the guy's YT. He hasn't made anything. It's just a bunch of tutorials. He only got views because he added "Pixar" in the title.

He didn't even show any example of Pixar even employing the technique. A quick google search clearly shows they doesn't use it. I dare you idiots to find one single example of Pixar using the so called "Pixar Elbow".

Goddamn are people retarded.
