You need a secondary light source from somewhere - just strong enough that the shadows aren't perfectly black

Simple perfect.
Emulates a natural, horrible lightened photo perfectly.
If it weren´t for the board nature itself and the shitty leaf models, i wouldn´t have guessed it is from a render.

Not an argument. Both my Lawyer and chiropractor use a dozen different fonts in their signs and on their business cards. Fact: the world out there is a typographical mess.

Okay, so what is the setting? Is it daytime, or nighttime? Outside, or inside? These things will factor into how you should properly set up your lighting. Right now it looks like it might be nighttime outside and there is a really bright light facing the wall that is really close by. The shadows, in fact, look a bit too dark even for this situation. The kind of light will also factor into this. Is the light supposed to be a flashlight? Looks too strong, maybe study on the power and color of common types of lightbulbs (I commonly see flashlights with a more yellow tint).
