3d scanned assets dont look good without proper global illumination, and skin dosnt look good without a good sss shader, the more realistic it gets the more easy its to mess something up.

This looks to be running in engine so it has a lot of limitations, but im still really impressed what they did here, the AO is shit, they baked AO into the model texture which also looks kinda shit, shadow map light bleed everywhere but as a whole this looks really close to early cgi movies.
Wonder what engine this is, its not unreal 4, this one has some sort of screen based and voxel based GI. Unreal 5? if so this game is much shorter in development than we are to be believed, then the 2022 or later release makes sense as it would start development not long ago. If so the Superman game and batman game were shitcanned a lot more recently than they claimed they were, they were telling us Superman game didnt go far into development, but i have serious doubts seeing how this game will have at least 7 years dev cycle from a really efficient studio.

No, realism does not mean the model has to be ugly. There are many examples of beautiful human faces both for males and females. Quite often, the actor/actress the game models are based on are much more attractive than their CG models.

I don't believe this is caused by lack of talent in 3D artists, I believe there's a strong push towards avoiding ideal beauty. Even male models have regressed in the past few years.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy, as some people really do seem to believe that imperfections add to beauty. What I cannot tolerate is the idea that everyone and their mother needs to be represented in fictional fantasy worlds. It's like demanding people to settle for sub-par physical attributes.

My disappointment in the evolution of 3DCG is one of the main reasons why I'm practicing digital sculpture. If you want it done right, you've got to do it yourself.

men, having a lower body fat threshold of 15% to womens 25% stop looking great around the 25-30% range, but there are modifiers such as they are actually strong, as most people who are strong do pack on a fairly large amount of fat as well.

here I got a chart, and before anyone says anything, you pretty much cant measure body fat any reliable way but image charts like this.

notice how the women, even at 40% that is ok, 45% is pushing it and may be a coin flip, but at 50 its no longer acceptable.
It should also be noted these bodys are more or less women 25-50 and men 20-40 are normal people, men 15 could be normal could be model, but men 3-12 are most likely photo shoots, same with women 10-22
the men have more muscle then likely the norm in those ranges (fucking 3-4 especially) and the women 10-22 clearly work out in ways most women want, I guarantee that if the 10-12 body put on fat to get to 30, he would not look like 30% in the picture.
