I have never been able to model tits right. Yes, this is serious, I need to finish a character with realistic breasts by next week. I use 3DS Max, but can also use Maya. It doesn’t seem to matter. How do I make realistic tits?

Should they be made separate from the body then welded on? Do I make a shitload of edge loops and pull the tits out? No matter what, they look fake.

What is the best way to model tits?

you gotta get some reference.

look up big boobs in google images. Try not to get distracted. Look at how the nipple is extruded at the right angle, just as the boob curves.

Go into sculpting on max or Maya, or if you prefer to actually poly model it go ahead. You can separate the boob area if you so wish and then weld it on.

The trick is finding what boob size relative to the body.

I like the poly modeling approach more than sculpting, at least to get going. Start with a simple shape like a cube. In Maya there is a function to preview a smoothed uprezzed verison which helps a lot in modeling such soft smooth things.

There is tons of reference, never use porn as one of them.
The best way would be to have them detached from the body and later to be merged. This way you can create overlap. Overlap in the breasts is what makes it more believable.

Take into account the clavicle and how it interact with the upper torso.
I personally use ZBrush because I can easily make a polygroup on the breast and with the Move Topological brush I can adjust them to how I want.

Pinterest is a crappy website but pretty good for finding obscure reference.
