I've been trying to get this one tool to work for making my hair in maya. I can use the Curve Deformer to make little poly blobs into hair strands and it has a lot of great control over the width over the length. But drawing the curves is labor intense, and all of my efforts make the work easier get met with really weird problems that shut everything down.

Then I just found this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktqvsYtzK1M

vroid basically does on its own what i was trying to get maya to let me do. Block out the hair with a nurbs surface, draw splines onto it, stretch out some poly shapes over the curves. Except this will do it automatically and interactively. AND the UVs are all done for you.
Just wanted to shair, and also poly modelling hair is a big topic that needs concerted discussion about.

Welp. I am not impressed with vroid. It seemed to do on its own what i wanted to set up for myself in maya but it's so limited i only think it'll be useful for a couple of hair styles. I'll still have to make my own hair making tool and if i can do that i may as well use it for easy hair too.

I understand, conceptually, hot to make the hair. Im in need of making lots and lots of hair dos and im trying to find a way to stream line it.
Ive been busy so I havent yet, but my plan is to blob out the hair with a nurbs surface, draw curves onto it and use the curve deformer to shape my hair planes.
