Why is blender so fucking ass at texturing? Why can't it be
>Step 1: Go to texture paint
>Step 2: Immediately start fucking painting

Then use another software for painting. You've already done UV

I want to be able to paint on the 3d model itself. No sane person takes a texture file, opens up windows paint and tries to edit a texture file for a model with 30,000+ vertices.

I don't think I'll ever learn how to texture in blender

Mate, you unwrapped that sphere so that every single face is taking the full texture, there's thousands of UV shells stacked on top of each other.

>> No.740266

Just use Substance or 3D Coat and you can paint on the model itself. If you use Substance and plan to sell the model make sure you include the substance material, so people using renderers like arnold can use the material straight out of substance.

either mark seams first or use smart uv project. But uv spheres come pre unwrapped so you don't have to unwrap it at all.

>> No.740300

>>740246
If you just pressed "Unwrap UVs" your faces might not be joined. Try applying a Weld modifier before unwrapping.
Also try doing that this Anon said >>740286, smart unwrap usually does the job if you're not looking for sophisticated UVs (layering mirrored parts on top of each other, pixel perfect island alignment etc).

Oh yea, you're uv is wrong. UV is annoying as hell but for a single sphere it must be easy as hell. There must be a sphere projection or something no ?
And btw, you can paint on the 3D model itself with other software. I recommend substance painter as it's easier but I think if you want to go full hand painting look at 3D coat

It's bad at texture painting because it's not a texture painting software. Use Painter, Mari or Mixer for that unless you want to bite your fingers during the whole process and get shit results.

>> No.740364

>>740337
Smart UVs are shit. Don't even start to get the impression you can use these garbage results.
If you want good looking textures and shaders you have to fully learn and understand unwrapping.
Yes, it's fucking shit, nobody in his right mind likes to do this, but you gotta suffer a little-bit if you want to get good. Its not THAT hard to understand.

Because just like any other software you're going to be using Substance for texturing anyway.

The workflow with Blender is shitty enough. Ever wonder why anyone who doesn't use Blender won't and never will? It's because they already have software that can do what Blender does EASIER and BETTER. The few pluses I will give Blender is the high amount of available tools for debugging other models, the very easy to use sculpting tool, and the simplicity of it's node graph.

Everything else is a fucking minus though.

Pic related: My first ever model sculpted and textured in Blender. Took me 20 minutes to sculpt, and 2 hours to paint and export because of how shitty the texture paint tool is.

>2 hours to paint and export because of how shitty the texture paint tool is.
Putting aside the fact that texture doesn't take two hours, even with Blender's shitty tools, nobody is forcing you to use Blender to what you already have access to or what you're already used to. Stop blaming Blender, and just get good at using whatever it is you intend to use. Maybe start by learning to unwrap. It doesn't matter if that's in Blender or not, so long as you learn. Whether the tools are better or not, they aren't shortcuts, like anon above you says.

That's why good topology is needed. High poly stuff is unironically easier to unwrap than medium poly game models if the topology is good.
And yes you have to learn unwrapping, there is no shortcut, maybe in a couple of years, but i am very pessimistic about it. I believe it when i have it on my computer and it works flawlessly.
Even then you have to know how unwrapping works to debug it.

That being said, why is baking vertex colors into a texture have to be so fucking shitty in blender? It sounds like a simple process except it's not.

Theres literally built in windows software that lets you paint directly onto 3d models.

Jesus fuck op how are you that dense. You didn't even properly unwrap your UVs, you're doing work on a toaster computer and without even know what UV unwrapping is you already think every other program is better than Blender. Get fucked

Imagine the sphere is a sock and you want to stuff shit inside of it without cutting it in half. Make a seam from pole to pole and deselect the first and last edge. Hit unfold and it should get unwrapped unwrapped. Better to put another seam around the equator.
