I’m asking myself lately, why do i spend so much time practing and studying to create something that will help no one and serve no purpose? Shouldn’t I be programming or learning about AI?

What makes you do it /3/ ?

Why do things for others when you could spend your life expressing your very own self? Or perhaps are you... a KEK?!

See, this is the issue with coddling pondscum retards who can't figure out direction and directive in their life. It's as though they have no grasp of philosophical concepts or abstraction, as though there is no point to doing, to being. It's babbies first nihilism and you can fuck off back to rebbit and upboat Rick and Morty. You see some nice artwork and you say to yourself, "gee, that looks like fun!", so you then hype up a vague notion that you can somehow become an artist or 3D creator, besides the fact that you live a realitively mundane and directionless life. You dabble here, you dabble there, but ultimately you have no purpose in 3D because to you, it's just a way to pass the time. "Maybe I could get a career in 3D" you think to yourself, and yet you drop it after a few moments to go on to the next novel idea your incredible mediocrity lends you to think of. You have no purpose in 3D because you have no purpose in life itself. If you knew 3D or art was for you, you'd set aside such ridiculous shitposts and dedicate time to learning and homing your craft.

You are a fucking disgrace.

You’re wrong, I’m a industry veteran and got laid off mpc Vancouver when it closed, so all my hard work and late hours, amounted to nothing.

If you’re so enlightened, tell me...what’s your meaning?

Let me tell you an anecdote, faggot. In this case, I had a friend who bizarrely worked in Canada, for Ubisoft. He worked for ten years with Ubisoft, going from junior positions, to senior level design. He worked on various projects, I believe he worked on Far Cry titles, and he made good money and got his wife involved as a character artist, or he met her there, whatever. Point is, he was in a good position and he had accomplished a lot. About a year ago he comes to me and says he's depressed, he feels like he wasted his time, he hates 3D and all that goes into a production title. He asked, just like you, the larping faggot, "what's the point?" I could only respond with disappointment, though obviously I cushioned my criticism in friend-talk. I told him he was a corporate pawn, that ultimately if you want to make something of yourself that feels worth it, meaningful, and important in your life, then you can't fucking slave away for a master. I told him he should pursue making what he always wanted to do, his own game. This fucker spent a decade of his own life honing his skill, crafting quality scenes, only to sign it all away to an entity that has no face, no name, and no purpose except to make money. I told him to follow his dreams, even if to the side of working at Ubisoft, just so he could find the meaning of passion again. It's been a while since I talked to him, but the most recent conversation we had was that he was still working at Ubisoft, wasn't making his game (although he gave some effort for a few months), and ultimately had to go through ego death to find comfort and happiness in his senior development position.

He chose slavery instead of mastery. And for that reason, even if you somehow are in the industry, you're still a loser. You're still ideologically and philosophically defeated. You have no purpose. No true purpose at least, except to slave away and let someone else dictate your life. Faggot.

but i ask you again anon, what drives YOU?
you can talk like a badass in the internet and call me faggot, but you are still unable to answer me what are you doing for yourself? why do you work with 3d? what do you do with it?

What terrible advice, if your "friend" was feeling exhausted from the conditions of the work environment the solution isn't to take on the burden of creating their own project, that's retarded. They just need to find a different place to work.

And when I say retarded, I mean it in the literal sense, that making his own entire project would likely slow his growth in the niche of game development he has specialized in. Asking a level designer to Just learn and do UI/UX, systems programming, audio, animations, modeling, sculpting, painting, localizations, and if this is supposed to support him financially, marketing, etc.

Working on your own project might be a fun way to use your skills outside the workplace, but that's not a cure to the core issue, it's a placebo.

If you don't get any joy from something, there's little reason to keep doing it, unless you are in a position where you have to do it to survive.

If you can't find joy in that activity anymore, then yeah, looking for something that you feel will be able to help others while also bringing you joy is probably a worthwhile investment of your time and energy.

I do 3d because I enjoy the process of thinking of some kind of concept, and then making it "tangible" in a digital space, and in some instances, ( like when I designed my desk ) making it "tangible in the real world by printing out those digital designs and building it a third time.

For the stuff that stays digital, I do 3d because I there are interactive systems I want to program and have others play with, and I want to have control over the look and feel of the models.

Joy is never the problem, working long hours , weekends and losing family and friends for some shitty movie is the problem, I just want you all to think about it and sacrifice for yourselves not for some childish dream of working for a company

>programming AI
You should try some programming to see what it's all about, and the stuff you learn can be applied towards scripting in your favorite software.

He wasn't just a level designer, he had other skillsets and was relatively intelligent. This is a difference of opinion but to me, burnout is not acceptable. If you burnout, then my suggestion is to always follow your dreams. Switching to something else isnt applicable like ie a different job, but setting aside some time to work on hia real dream is pragmatic. He was burned out on a corporate setting, not my fault if he wasnt serious about game design.

And just so you know it is not unrealistic to one man or tiny team it. Not anymore at least. Just because youre low iq doesnt mean this advice is bad, it just means low iq people cant see the means to get there.

what do you enjoy doing?
stop trying to find meaning in your work if it's just a job.
have a goal
I'm wagecucking and I'm saving as much as possible so I can work on my dream projects and even if I won't be making a living with them I have acquired enough skills to keep working in the field I love but the dream projects is why I'm working

find you why, tedtalk.exe

Anon.

One day everyone will be dead. This planet will be a cold, lifeless husk. The stars will go out an d entropy will reign. Everything is futile since everything leads to the same result: oblivion.

Thus, you should do what you enjoy. Do not worry about what the future holds or if it is useful in the gran scheme of things. You get ONE CHANCE to be happy.
