Protip that is so ridiculously simple but took me a long time to discover:

If you want your character eye colors to pop out, you can assign an emissive surface with the original base surface of the eye, and low luminosity. In theory you're cheating by making their eyes luminous. In practice the color pops out like an hypnotizing masterpiece of grace and stuff.

>> No.724120

>>724117
You can edit anything into anything with an external 3d program but it might not be possible to open unbutton the shirt unless the geometry allows that. If it can't be opened with a morph you will need to edit it and create a new asset instead of just a morph. Then use the Transfer Utility on the new asset with the old shirt as a base and reapply the materials.

Blender would be ideal for something simple like this as it has traditional polygon editing abilities and good sculpt tools. And it's free and lightweight.

>> No.724156

>>724117
You can also do some slight geometry editing in Daz, which can be sufficient to remove some polygons.

Not you, but the most asked question I have ever seen in the Daz community is "how do I remove that bit?". If it has separate bones, you can hide the bones. If it has separate textures, and in 85% of the case it has, you can put the opacity of the texture you want to hide to 0. If not, you can always delete the geometry directly.

Just some tips.

I dont get why people hate on Daz for what it is. Its honestly really good for the industry. real 3D artists get a chance to sell shit to lazy people. Lazy people get to play with 3D and learn and maybe eventually move on to better software. Coomers coom. I do kind of hate the fact I am avoiding getting in to sculpting because I already have a library of people I could use for animation and rigging. I'm glad I learned Daz and none of that time was wasted because my knowledge has transferred over to other 3d software like blender and MD and I freaking love it.

Morphs are entirely what causes it. If you have loads of morphs you need to manage them.
I use this morph manager:
http://nsware.de/
It's very simple it just moves morphs in and out of folders. pic related are the only morphs you need for a base gen8. Whenever you need a morph just use the manager and reload gen8.
I use symbolic links to link the most important folders in my Daz Library to my fasted SSD too. Everything will load instantly. They should really build this into DAZ itself. Nobody needs all morphs loaded at all times.

You don't need some special new shaders for photorealistic characters. Most standard shaders can do it. Rendering on cpu is possible, if you're willing to, say, render overnight. That's what I did before I bought a 1070. If that's the case, it doesn't really matter if a good render takes 7 hours instead of 9 hours. Having a decent cpu is enough, no need to shill extra money to shave off a small amount of time from a render that takes an inordinate amount of time. You'll still end up with inordinate amount of time.

I would never advise a surface for Daz, but say, if you need one for a reason or another, it can still be used for it.

>Unfortunately you'll find that using a render farm is either no faster than what you achieve now, or is cost prohibitive.
>while the cost may seem low on the price pages, take any amount and multiply by 24 hours and see if it's really cost effective.
>If they have an onsite calculator use that.
>i just did a quick one on the rebus site(https://us.rebusfarm.net/en/lets-go/calculator).).
>At their low rate of 2.2 cents/GHzH, using two opteron 6174 at 1hr is an hourly rate of $1.12
>I used those processors as i have a server with those particular cpus in them so i know the real world performance with daz iray.
>The last major render i did on that server took 29 days, to reach 93% convergence, 50k itterations.
>It consisted of the yamaki rapture bike, stonemason's urban future 5, and one armored genesis3 female using the light/camera/render preset set for UF5.
>so if i paid a render farm to render that scene it would cost $779.52
>the server cost me $150 on ebay with a cheap 1GB gpu, ati, and a 500GB HDD, WD, it came with 32GB of ram.

It doesn't make sense for me than an external service used to cut costs would end up being much more expensive than if you do it yourself... but apparently that's the case, or that was his experience. Dunno.

In my own experience, external render service are convenient when one needs to make a ton of render immediately, i.e for HD animation. Then you can just allocate 10000$ to the service and have a decent animation finished in one or two days, just by throwing money and CPU or GPU at it.

I have never heard of it being used by amateurs, which Daz is very much marketed for, at least at this level. I don't quite see the point of buying a frame for 20$ when you can just run your own GPU for two hours at the cost of 2$ of electricity and, yes, two hours lost. Which for an amateur isn't something they'd care.

>> No.727385

I found another post...
>here is a whole lisrt of iray render farms https://rentrender.com/iray-render-farms/ look for the daz icon for software match.
>personal I like RenderRev render, https://www.revuprender.com/ I have used them a couple of time for projects and always had great service. they are USA based 200mbps highspeed data transfer they use a remote virtual desk top so everything stays put on your own PC , & you can load any software using GPU rendring not just daz but Maya and blender as well as carrara , awesome support to walk you through the set up process to get you started . . $1 pre core minute for starting price. with $200 min requirement. to connect. Just have your scene tested and ready to go before connecting to the server and its much cheaper if you spend your time testing rendering on a render farm server its going to add up fast I do my test renders on my PC and save it before starting VDP to connect to the iRAY servers.. . I just used these guy for a commissioned animation back in February. It did cost me just under $600 for a 12 minute film but the cost went to the client. so keep track of your render times.
Assuming her video was at 30fps, and that the price for single frames it cost her less than 3c per frame. It was a 60fps video, less than 2c per frame. That price is completely different from what the other guy posted (also on their forums).
Dunno. If single frames are the same cost of video frames (they may not), that means you could set up 20 scenes and have them rendered in a single frame for less than 50 cents. Give than a single figure can cost $20 or more, it doesn't seem too bad.

>> No.727387

>>727385
> $1 pre core minute for starting price.
Use your head. Assuming what they call a "core" is an entire GPU, which I doubt, but let's say, it's $1 minute of render time. Now your last image took how many minutes to render?

My last took 2 hours on a Titan.

>just under $600 for a 12 minute film
That's not what I'm accustomed with, but the animation was probably significantly lower definition than what I deal with. That'd explain it, I guess. Still, for an amateur, it'd be cheaper to render that thing on your trusty non-shitty GPU you bought at Ebay, which'd cost $0.1 of electricity an hour.

Render farms are there for professional convenience. They are extremely convenient for professionals and if you can delegate the cost to the client. For large projects, some can argue they are even cheaper than having your own render farms, as the cost of large scale infrastructure maintenance is nil. But I've never heard them being used by people who fap to their waifus.

Not that it is wrong, but the needs are completely different in that case.

Try not to make scenes that are bigger than the VRAM of you graphics card. Scenes that are bigger than your VRAM will pushed into your normal RAM and then renderd by your CPU instead of the GPU.
The CPU is much slower at 3D rendering than a GPU.

Such a downer, I’ve been reading and apparently there was Thunderbolt 3 on a bunch of cool early 2in1’s back when it was new and everyone wanted to try their hand at capturing the market- somehow Surface won the hearts and minds and is the only one making modern hardware packed windows tablets but without TB3...! Idiots too busy trying to make a folding display.. give it a rest no one wants a tablet with a folding screen!
Tempted to even look at those laptops that fold in half, the Yoga stuff.. but I can’t help but think anything with a 180 hinge has an extremely limited lifespan, given how much laptops fail at the hinge, and how much more work foldable’s hinge would be put under

You can't create HD morphs, that's a tool only available for DAZ3D content creators. Anyway if you want just to modify the base mesh you could try the ZBrush bridge, it's pretty straightforward there you can go back and fort between models.

There's also a work-around to create HD-Morphs but so far only works with faces, you need the AutoFaceHD geoshell for that.

I have a similar issue, I can export a male character without many issues in around 15 min, but when I try to export a female it takes a long time to run the daz script.
If, on top of that I use the #clear morphs command on blender, it takes literally hours to import it.
If I don't import it with that option, I end up with a 3-4 GB .blend (depending on if it has clothes).
And removing the unnecessary shapekeys in blender is not an option, since for whatever reason the memory usage of the application increases by around 3GB for each one that I delete (no clue as to why this happens) and there is no option to select and delete many at the same time.
I've already suggested to the creator to allow to skip morphs in a similar way than the regular fbx export does.

Octane doesn't really work without significant change in the pipeline, in my own experience, which dates of three years ago or so. Octane doesn't take native iray materials, but import them (i.e transform them while hoping it looks quite the same). Octane doesn't take native Daz geometries, but import them (i.e transform them while hoping it looks quite the same).

It is quite an hassle. I had several experience of models being 10 cms larger, or 20 cms smaller, or feet not touching the ground. The materials are a mess. The whole thing is a mess.

If you do try Octane, be prepared in that it will need additional fixes.

>Select a single polygon on the base figure that you don't mind losing - anywhere, you could even hide the head and select one on the back of the tongue if you liked.

>Refit the clothing if you unfitted it.

>Unfit and refit the clothing to update the display.

This sounds like one of the many PA only options daz doles out to their content creators, most if not all of which have NDL's attached, Like HD morphs and Geographting and their original cloth sim (that licensed shit noone ever used because fuck them.) that make life harder for people buying their fucking products.

It's the second time I need to tweak OOT textures for something absurdly simple. Last time it was golden blonde.

Look, for presets, it's not that complicated. Dark, brown, light blonde, golden blonde, redhead. We don't need "pissy blonde that looks fake", "flat yellow-tainted orange that tries to pass as redhead", 55 different versions of brown but not the ones that looks cool on render, and while I appreciate the blue, purple, and green colors, their usage are somewhat more specialized than fucking golden blonde.

If they're lucky, they'll move on to another app and other topics. Mostly they will just dive deeper into their smut and awful fetishes.

Does anyone know what hair this is? There are no credits for this promo (for an unrelated product).
It looks familiar, but I just can't place it.

Wtf, reading about how Daz locks HD resolution imports for HD res morphs- apparently you can only Morph Loader Pro base resolution morphs back onto a figure.. unless you’re a PA who has secret tools straight from Daz themselves
Any way around this, besides resorting to diff map nonsense? I want more polygons to work with!!
