You could post an image of an award winning model from an iconic series by an internationally renowned studio made by the best artists to ever live but if it was made in blender /3/ would call it shit.

That's mostly because people just either take the output as is or at most additionally activate contact shadows and call it a day.
You can get some pretty good results if you fiddle around with the settings and use the damn LIGHT PROBES.

But overall it is still meant as preview and too many brainlets think it is there to replace cycles which is absolutely not the fucking case.

UDIM you can paint across, bieng able to deform stencils/projections, node editor, Photoshop .abr support. Better brush engine. Open subdivision support. Animation support. Camera matching. The reasons just go on forever. Substance painter is good software but it still has a long way to go to match parity with Mari. Even though on paper Substance looks so far behind I still use it for a lot of things.

For using a photo and pretending you textured it like this guy did it's the best. FFD's on photo reference are a great way to make a photo conform to your mesh. I find it's better for painting displacement maps too. Substance tends to pad the pixels around low and high points so you end up with less detail overall.

Think that might be caused by a screenspace ambient occlusion filter. Seen the very same thing happen inside GTA V while diving underwater during certain light conditions.

Looks like some Z-depth based functions that doesen't compensate for the implied curvature and makes the facets of a models real visible.
