So this might be the thread for me as I'm trying my first 'serious' render (or whatever) and I want to superimpose it on top of a real pic of my town. I know there is still a lot of stuff to work on and fix but so far I'm pretty happy with the results.

Might be your autism is too strong but I know exactly what you mean and I can't stand perspective correction faggotry used in digital photography now. When I see a photo of some huge ass building taken by a normal human bean I expect it to be a bit wonky just because of perspective, lense and so on. To me it doesn't look better at all, it just looks tinkered with and even fake to some extent but it seems in these times people really love fake shit in many ways.

the term comes from the french word for raw, as in raw form and raw materials. The goal was to create a feeling of sublimity, shock, and awe.
It's clearly worked because you guys have had such a strong emotional reaction to it, it's just too bad you guys are emotionally stinted and don't know how to contain yourself.

That should be their cup of tea because the most avant-garde architects are using 3d animation software now.
Seriously, check out Zaha Hadid, Morphosis, Heatherwick or Andrew Bromberg if you want to see people who build.
if you want to see academics who don't build, start going down the Mark Foster Gage, Ferda Kolatan, or Hernan Dias Alonso route.

Brutalism isn't associated with communism, it's associated with egalitarian socialism within capitalistic countries.

The idea was to make functional buildings that did not attempt to hide the structural load-bearing parts and did not belie the materials the buildings where made of.
Hence most brutalist buildings out there are western government institutions and such.

Personally I love them, sure they look like robocop doomsday fortresses, but I wouldn't mind living next to them.
But I can see how bonestock boring people who're not as into cyberpunk chique would find them imposing rather than stimulating.

So the problem with trying to render brutalism architecture is the simple shapes and forms look good in real life because they are complemented with grunge, broken worn concrete and a bunch of other things. If you try to recreate this in the 3d as a starting project you will have a bad time, the beauty would only come from some incredible texture work and the alternative is a super basic boxy building with bland repeating textures.

>> No.705614

>>705530
I disagree anon, the grunge is nice but it isn't the main thing, it's the play of light and shadow across the surfaces.

To get the effect going that make these structures come alive one need to render some very high end HDR image based skylight and global illumination.

>> No.705695

>>705614
What are you talking about? Why specifically HDRI, and global illumination, that should go without saying right? You're just talking about the lighting, I agree that's important but it comes back to why I said about variation. Please do show me otherwise brutalism is not a good choice for someone starting out in arcvis, because they will only focus on the building shape and not the detail.

Anyone interested in this should look at some of Paul Rudolph's work, particularly his section renderings. He was an influential brutalist architect who did all kinds of wacky arrangements.

As an architect, not archviz guy, I'm surprised I never see any kinds of sections or exploded drawings in any Archviz discussion. Much more informative and compelling type of drawings IMO.

I've always liked brutalist buildings. There's something about the open, clean, glass covered architectural styles that makes me feel uncomfortable at ground level. By no means all of them - I'm basically an architectural philistine so I unfortunately can't pinpoint which style I have an issue with - but I'd say it's kind of a cubicle versus open plan office thing - on the surface the latter is more human and socially oriented, but in a weirdly perverse and artificial way that detracts from social relations rather than adding to them. Brutalist structures lack that feeling, they're imposing - but in a way that will leave you alone if you don't cause trouble. They also feel more like they signal a future directed by benevolent paternalistic scientists, a future that never came.

These are definitely deconstructivism, in order to interpret them one would have to follow the deconstructivist creative route that the architect created specifically for the building. It's usually taking an original building, dismembering it into fragments and then using these fragments in order to create a new building. It's heavily criticized as a random observer would never guess the underlying ideas of the construction. It's the process itself that interests the architect and the final construction is just the end product of a long process. The process is the architecture, the building is just a part of it.

It depresses me that building highly detailed buildings like that Anon just posted in large numbers (like a whole city) is pretty much impossible due to costs. Even just renovating ONE of those old buildings is a huge act now that first have to go through dozens of regulation instances and of course finding funding for the whole project.

No wonder they rather shit out concrete blocks and sprinkle it with some asymmetric bullshit to make it look "artsy"

Where do you guys fidn blueprints of the buildings's interior?
What if you need to make a realistic 3d model of some japanese temple, with all its rooms, shrines and weird angles.
I mean there must be some blueprints that will allow you make as you need it to but I am not sure where.
Any tips?
