Ok faggots, i need some money to upgrade to a 2080ti gpu and the only monetizable skills i have are 3d modeling, texturing and rendering.
i need some strategies to make some passive income in the internets, lets discuss methods, websites, strategies and secrets about making some passive income with our skillz.

Model shit for Sims mods like clothes and shit. Sell it on Patreon. There's a sizable market of autists and stay-at-home moms that would spend money on that shit.

>>688901
Second life isn't dead, but you'll probably have a hard time doing anything that hasn't been done.

Daz users are pretty autistic (just look at starfleet) and the marketplace looks like stage 4 cancer, so you might get lucky selling shit there.
Depending on your artistic talent, you can sell posters and shirts and other junk on Redbubble. I get a good $100 every month or so doing basically nothing from that shit.
There's also selling textures and materials on places like Gumroad, or Artstation. Just do packs of like 5 materials and sell them for like $10-$15 or something, and make a bunch of them.
You could also go the "Guru" route and try to become a YT personality with tutorials and do shitty Blender tuts for Patreon money. Just be super "Youtubey".
Of course there's also no shortage of game devs with no artistic talent. So you could also sell asset packs on the Unity store or whatever it is. I'm sure a ton of Russians and Indians will buy it no problem for shitty mobile games or asset flip shit to put on Steam. You'd probably run into the same problem as Second Life though where there's a high saturation of content. Maybe try making modular packs that fit together or something.

That's all I can think of. Maybe there's enough there to jump off from. Some need a bit more work and networking, but it's all pretty passive.

>Couldn't you just work
do you actually think one cannot have passive income at the same time we work a 9 to 5 job?
this is exactly what im asking, i have a 9 to 5 job but i want some alternative income coming in from time to time, so i dont have the need to go steal food from the needy at the community kitchen.

>>688928
>You'd probably run into the same problem as Second Life though where there's a high saturation of content.
this is actually what i have encountered everywhere, over saturation everywhere, but i guess i can make a pack of models, textures or some shit like that, the secret there is how i get ahead of trends, where do i even begin to research that?

if you want to figure out what's selling then do some keyword research and find out what people are looking for. Go on asset selling markets and check for what's selling the most and find out the difference between that and the garbage that's spewed out.

If you really want to make passive income on the side then making niche fetish porn is a legitimate possibility. One anon who posted in /wip/ a little while ago was making xenomorph porn and making $300+ from patreon alone. Another guy I know makes $100+ from making monstergirl vore porn. Just find out what disgusting shit people are into because there are so many examples proving people will pay for it

>how i get ahead of trends, where do i even begin to research that?
It's not so much of getting ahead of them before they start, it's more about riding that wave once it does. It's much easier to notice a trend as it's starting and jumping aboard. Like the Battle Royale train that's starting to die off now.
It's important to realize that trends and shit are cyclical. It's hardly ever that something totally new pops up. So if you miss one, more are going to follow.

In any case, you're more likely to find success riding on trends that are just now hitting the mainstream, or look like they're about to.
In terms of selling shit on game asset stores, look at games that are due to come out in the future. See what people are excited for, what looks good, and what looks like it'll make a big impact. Copycats are soon to follow, and you want to be the guy that supplies those copycats with assets.
For example, games with pirates and shit seem to be on the up and up. Sea of Thieves came out a while back, there's that pirate rts thing coming out that people are making a big deal of, and Ubisoft is gearing up to release Skull and Bones or whatever it's called. It's not too out of the question that a few more might follow suit. I could be wrong though, that's just how it is.

It's all work to be sure, but it's more of an up-front investment of time more than anything.

No kidding, but there's also no shortage of modern sci-fi assets and stuff already. I mean you could say that about pirate games, but when's the last time we've had a game with that aesthetic, compared to a game with a sci-fi/cyberpunk aesthetic?
You want to jump into one where people can't afford to be picky about assets to maximize your chance of getting seen and getting shit bought.

Then again, this is more about economics and shit than art, so I'm a bit out of my element. Maybe a bunch of people would want CP2077's look specifically. At the very least, you can't go wrong making buildings and stuff like that. People always are making cities and shit.

>No kidding, but there's also no shortage of modern sci-fi assets and stuff already.
theres scifi assets all over the place, its over saturated already, how long has vitaly bulgarov been at the top already? and he only does sci fi shit.

>> No.689056

>>689026
>sci-fi assets
I'm no 3D artist and I've never even browsed 3D assets storefronts, but I'd guess most sci-fi assets are generic looking Space Odyssey/Trekkie stuff. Neo-cyberpunk is more like a fusion between Italian futurism and neon-noir; concept cars, neon lights in impractical places, plants in floating pots, and a lot of colours yellow, cyan and magenta. Think about The Jetsons but dystopic, lol.

Another sci-fi game that's huge right now is Warframe, and it presents a biotech concept with some kinda Jedi-esque spiritual aesthetic. Warframe is a rolemodel for f2p games now and I can see some people trying to tap into its style.

You'd think so, but with the success of shit like Blade Runner 2049, and the recent resurgence in 80s media and art (even though 80s is on it's way out), a bunch of shit like CP2077 saturating the market already isn't that crazy to believe. Chuck in shit like Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous hell even Destiny, and there's no shortage of generic sci-fi stuff nowadays. It's not just the Jetsons and 2001 anymore.
They might not be strictly cyberpunk in the same vein, but we're talking about generic assets. Throw enough of them together and you can make it look like whatever you need. Cyberpunk overlaps with sci-fi aesthetics more than anything else. Throw some neon signs with some Jap lettering up there and suddenly it's Cyberpunk (at least for the uneducated pleb).
Not to mention we're also talking about exploiting the low-effort asset flip trash that gets posted on Steam nowadays.

>>689050
Those types of people have a good amount of followers and tend to have an influence on what people tend to make as well. Trendsetters basically. Good idea to pick up on what they do and corner a market or style just as they're starting it as well. All of that's easier said than done though.

so how do you get around subsctiption fees and unlicensed software when it comes to selling models online?
blender is way too unreliable and lacking too much to be considered a viable software alternaive , so when we're talking small side income thats around 100/200 bucks that would be eaten by subscription fee
what are the chances of people finding out the software you've used was unlicensed and what repercussions can you face?
is the model just removed from the website, possible your account terminated or can you face some actual penalties?
how can i as a consumer check whether the model ive bought came from licensed software or not?

>> No.689362

>>689340
>blender is way too unreliable and lacking too much to be considered a viable software alternaive
not true, or at least it depends on what you want to do.
I am doing hardsurface sci fi models and Blender is working great. Blender + Substance Painter + UE4.
Cost me 250 bucks. 200 for SP (permanent license) and the rest for some addons for Blender.
I can easily keep up with somebody using a pure proprietary software pipeline.
Its also easy to cheat and use some pirated software in the mix if i wanted to.
Since the end result is going through blender, nobody can determine if i sculpted some of it in ZBrush or did the retopo in Maya instead of Blender.
But i usually don't do heavy sculpting nor animation, just pure asset production with medium resolution models (no SubD) and for that Blender is perfect and even faster and more comfortable than Max or Maya.

I've got a Photoshop sub and for the most part, my passive income covers that easy with plenty of cash to spare. Obviously that's not as costly as pro 3d software though.

That being said, anything you can do in another program can be done in Blender, just in a bullshit ass way that's hardly worth it. So if someone calls you out for using something else, you can just say you "did it in Blender". No one even says you have to actually use Blender.
Hell, even if you import an OBJ or something from another program and then export it out, I'm pretty sure the metadata is scrubbed. I could be totally wrong about that though. Don't forget about student editions and shit too.

As far as worst case scenario goes, most that will happen is the offending thing will get removed. Consumers can't or won't bother to check if something was made in something or not, and in the case of asset flippers they could give a fuck less.

would there be an issue when pirating software? I have the entire adobe suite including cloud support, ZBrush, Substance and more but I imagine most people don't even ask whether you have a legit license or not. Most people just care about the results

>> No.689426

>>689422
I've been doing creative shit and 3d for years and have never been asked to provide a license or proof of purchase by anyone.
The only time someone will ask is if you're being a retard and bragging about pirating or "acquiring" the software without paying for it. Otherwise they wouldn't know. You could be using a license from your job, a name different from your alias, someone else's computer, all sorts of shit.
For the most part, companies don't care much about piracy (I mean they do, but it's not a huge priority) , as the convenience of just paying for it usually outweighs bothering to pirate, or it's something like you needing a legitimate copy to work in an environment with others and shit like that. Plus people learning on their software for free, makes paying users down the line.
Basically just don't be stupid and you'll be fine.

There doesn't seem to be that big of a demand for 3d fursonas, there's maybe one or two incredibly good artists that make characters and charges like $300, and then random really bad artists that reconfigure one tormented model of Krystal off Deviantart into a clumsy representation of a fursona for their friends for free.

There doesn't seem to be any middle ground, and the guy that did the $300 model is still making at or below minimum wage with the added bonus of interacting with some ultra autist several times a day (those goes for almost all FA artists, incidentally)
