Instead of just hassling each other over which software is best, how about a thread where we challenge ourselves?

Rules are simple: whatever the theme is, make that in your program of choice. Just don't spend too much time on it: this is just a way to brush up on our skills. If you want to share your results, post it here! Render it out fully, or just take a screenshot of the viewport, whatever you want.

If you want your work to be critiqued, mention that: otherwise, assume that whatever is posted is simply that person's finished challenge and leave it be. This is about each individual practicing their skills, not about competing with each other.

Let's start with an easy one: make a lamp! Whatever that means to you, just challenge yourself to make a lamp. Here's mine! nothing fancy, just a boring old lamp. I took off the lampshade and set it aside because I wanted to make the florescent bulb visible.

Because these "challenges" are uninspired garbage that can be found on literally every 3d forum.
In the rare situations where someone comes up with something creative (or unintentionally funny), you get a lot of responses. See: Duk thread

>> No.687616

Hey everyone let's have a quick donut round. Challenge yourself by making a donut, just don't spend too much time on it. You're brushing up on your skills.

You think the reason people don't want to waste time on a shitty beginner thread like this is because they're actually busy doing actual shit they find to be more relevant? Whether or not that counts as "work" to you doesn't matter.

Why should anyone give a fuck about modelling a lamp? If you're already consistently working on shit, there's no reason to "brush up on your skills" since you're already using them. Like the other anon said, put up something creative and not some stupid shit like a lamp and people will flock to it.
Doesn't even look like OP took it seriously since the shit looks like something half assed even in the '90s.

I have to put 3D in its proper place in life. I have yard and pond maintenance in the sunshine that keeps me connected to the sun. I have a strong marriage that I will not put Blender in front of her. Then the kids: 3 pups. 2 cats.

That being said, it gives me great pleasure to drop by once in a while and show you what kind of a low intellectual you have become: at least post a WIP, puss.

And here's what's behind the lamp shade. This is all modeled based on a real lamp, but the proportions aren't exact. It's good enough, though. I would have shown the lightbulb, but the bulb model isn't very good.
