686096 No.686096 [Reply] [Original]

As people in Japan and the west are reacting at the latest Pokémon games being shit, they started a hashtag called "Modeling Pokémon in 5 minutes" #ポケモン5分モデリング in order to spite the creators for the bad quality of the games.

>> No.686105

>>686096
If I had to model something like 900+ Pokemans or however many the fuck there are nowadays, I'd be simplifying the designs too.
To expect AAA quality out of each and every one of them is fucking ridiculous. They've done it to themselves for making that many, but the players need to meet halfway with their expectations. Especially since they're fitting it all onto a cartridge and running it on a Nintendo Switch of all things.
I'm not saying the games haven't been shit, and the designs are all that to write home about, but I can definitely understand why there'd be corners cut in places that make sense.

Lastly, what the fuck is this thread? All you did was post a headline, probably from some shitty website. What are you contributing?

you should do at least basic research on the topic before commenting on it

There's nothing here.

I can understand if Game Freak can't add every Pokémon in because of the immense task of creating/updating models and animations at launch, but there's no excuse it can't be added in as a patch later on. What they're doing is just flat-out refusing the do it and saying that it's the new standard.

Not to mention they already did this when the games first came to 3DS.

Imaging a Pokémon game with the slogan 'Gotta catch em all' where you literally can't.

Dude, from the beginning that was the way it worked. If you had Red, you needed to also buy Blue/Green or trade with people to get all the Pokemon. You LITERALLY couldn't "catch" them all unless you cheated.

Thought they did the same when they went from Gameboy to GBA.
Everyone I knew as a kid had all sorts of hacked and glitched pokemon. Makes sense that they'd wipe the slate clean back then, and it makes some sense that they'd do it now with the amount of work they put on their plate.

It's the first sentence of an article headline. All it conveys is that some japs are doing a thing because they're mad that their Pokemon game isn't what they wanted.

All animations, models, and textures were made years in advance by Creatures inc.; this movement was pointless from the very beginning.

The problem, it seems, was porting all of them to the latest overworld engine; but they're unable to do all of them due to the shift in priority.

The reason they are shit is because for some reason they are dead set on making 1 game with 2 or 3 versions EVERY YEAR. If 3 people made 1 model a day for a year in the pokemon team, then you would have all 900 something pokemon in the game. They would all be shitty because of time constraints.

I hate this argument so much, because it implies that
A) new pokemon/forms don't exist
B) New animations/effects can't or won't be applied to older monsters
and
C) Modeling (and rigging and texturing) and animation are the entirety of the process for porting a monster

It's just stupid and clearly ignorant of the issue.

And okay, I get it, I really do. It's dumb that not every pokemon is gonna be in the game. And yeah, Sword and Shield do look not that great. But saying they're "LAZY" because they're not porting over all the 1000+ different monsters and forms is just entitled and stupid.
That's not lazy, that's resource management.
And, again, you don't have to like it, or the direction they're taking the game, but there's a hundred more appropriate qualifiers by which to judge the quality of the game. NOT porting over every. single. monster. and taking a proactive approach to monster pools in the future might actually be the first SMART thing they've done with the franchise in years.

Even a half assed youtube zbrush fag can probably shit out a decent monster sculpt per hour. Retopo is quick and animation guys wouldn't take long either for a few (get hit) and (attack) animations, texturing is fast too nowadays with smart materials. So let's you hire one sculptor, one retopo, one animator, and one texture guy, you'll have a monster done every hour. That's 8 monsters a day in an 8 hour work day. So in around 110+ days you have 900 monsters done. That's with just 4 design fags, i'm sure gamefreak has more. They could easily shit out quality monsters but they won't because they don't have to, they know they'll keep making millions even if the monsters are literal blobs.
