I gotta say using blender2.80 for quick morphs or fixing clothes works better than I expected.
Also, not sure if it's just me but it feels like the sculpting tools work WAY better than in 2.79. in the old version you had to fiddle around with brush settings a ton before it was kinda usable.

Is it just a combination of too much effort and the risk of getting sued that prevents anyone from creating more high quality "cosplay" content than someone like guhzcoituz or this guy: https://www.deviantart.com/shinteo? can fbx from daz be imported to 2.8 without problems?

>> No.676591

In DAZ, yes... But my experimentation with DAZ models in blender made it pretty easy to use a separate mesh/material for the eyebrows. Just duplicate the eyebrow region of the model into a separate object, add a shrink wrap modifier to it, set the modifier to 1mm outside of the head's mesh, and use the same transparency style material as the eyelashes. You can also fake the translucency by adding a tiny tint (like 0.25) to the specular reflections... Or just straight up use transparency. I've found it looks better because it doesn't effect and isn't effected by the skins SSS, has its own bump, and stands out from the mesh slightly when viewed at angles.

You add like 20 quads to the model, but whats 20 quads on a model with 17k as a base?

>> No.676592

Use COLLADA (.dea). I've had literally zero issues with it (aside from materials not being transferable, but that's not COLLADA's fault).

>> No.676721

>BW mask
DAZ itself doesn't have this separation. Every diffuse map I've seen for it has had the eyebrows built into them. Why would they do that if they were just going to use an entirely separate shader for the eyebrows? Yes, masking in a spererate shader would work, but you run into issues with bump maps having to align.

this is so damn good. before that I always had to use dforms to make clothing work the way I wanted and it sometimes turned into an absolute mess before I got where I wanted. back then making, importing and exporting morphs usually either ended in "no deltas" error messages or models that disintegrated into a cloud of triangles.
now literally my imagination is the limit, fuck yes.

Get a better GPU. Iray is nvidia's brain fart... I mean, brain child. CPU performance is nearly irrelevant to it. I haven't delved deeply into it as I opted not to use Iray as soon as I figured out that it was GPU rendering only; however, there also doesn't appear to be much in the way of "render optimizations" in DAZ's surface level UI. All I've managed to find is subdivide levels and toggles for SSS, and alike. I'm sure you could fug wit bounces and sheet somewhere, but I'm not wasting my time looking up those settings for you... Just get a better GPU if you want to use DAZ as your rendering program.

Is it normal that the "interactive mode" of iray only knows on/off alpha?
I really love that mode since I don't need perfect photorealism most of the times and it's fast as fucking fuck but the fact that doesn't have at least a couple alpha levels and makes things with transparency jagged as shit ruins it.

I just use zbrush and move things around, should I do something smarter? Is their some kind of topology guide I can turn on to know what not to move too much?

>> No.677140

There is a setting in DAZ for how to fit an object to the model. I'm to lazy to look for its name, but you want to use the one that isn't default. I haven't got much experience with DAZ yet, but what I do know is that its exporter for .dae doesn't like the default setting for fitting. It produces issues that look exactly like that on models I've morphed and tried to export. It's something like "Auto Fit to Transform." It wont look any different in DAZ after you make the switch, but the exported file wont be all messed up.

You might be doing something else completely wrong though. I've never done any zbrush remodelling. Just exporting DAZ store assets and models for use in blender.

i have a gtx 660, at what point will it stop with daz studio?

>> No.678340

At 2 GB of memory.

2 GB of memory is a single character. Two if you use memory optimizer aggressively, which you should.

You will be really constrained on your GPU renders, but luckily Daz can render on CPU, just be aware it will take one or two days for a complex scene.

4.11b lets you use system memory for GPU renders now.

They finally implemented out of core rendering in iray? Hell must be frozen over.

I thought NVidia was adamant about not implementing in order to drive GPU sales.
