Having CPU heat and fan speed issues.

>pic looks very much like what I have

GFX crapped out and ordered a new one along with some heat sink compound. I'm waiting for the new stuff and the GFX card to come in the mail so I thought I'd do spring cleaning. I'm using the last of my TM30 heat sink compound and applied that to my processor after cleaning it thoroughly and the heat sink.

Now, when i turn the comp on, it maxes out the fan speed and then shuts off, over and over.

Then, the core temps seem to be around 39 - 47 C as I type this out and nothing else going on. That seems high to me considering I was usually at ~31 with general internet browsing and no streaming.

The fuck did I break?

Forgot, I've checked the heat sink seating and made sure to use just a BB sized dot of compound. I've now cleaned the processor 5 times and this won't stop.

Why did you make a thread for this on the 3 board?

You killed a thread.

isn't really that high. My CPU says 90c is high and 100 is critically high. I'm sure it it rated for above that for short bursts as well seeing as most are.

My guess is that you either didn't apply the heat paste properly and only half of the processor is being cooled correctly, or you plugged the fan into a different socket.

Heat sink compound goes bad. You can just use some old stuff you found laying around the house. Your CPU isn't cooling correctly because the compound you used didn't bond correctly.

I hit 87 C while gaming.

I'll check a 6th time but I'm not sure it will do any good at this point. The heat sink sits into holes, and it won't lock in place if it is any way misaligned.

My compound is less than a year old. Manufacture says it has a 2 year life once opened. Should be good, still. But who knows. I am having issues after all.

/g/ here.

Post a high resolution picture of your computer guts with good lighting.
If I can't see well enough to read the words on the motherboard then I can't help you.

My work computer's fans don't get to full speed until my cpu is touching 90c... By default anyways, I haven't overridden my bios's control of the fans. However, that might just be the issue for you. If you are the guy that was posting last night then your fresh install of windows might be managing fan speeds differently, or not at all.
