It'll be appended to the generals, both /wip/ and /questions/ (maybe /blender/ if I get hold of it again), since I'm pretty sure we can all agree it's a very helpful collection of links. We should keep a thread like this going too, to act as a dumping ground for all these links.

659332

Don't know if it would be useful for anyone, or if this is the place to share, but I've made a procedural 80s "Chrome" lettering material for Blender. It's not realistic, but it captures the effect of 80s lettering pretty well.
It should be pretty self explanatory. The real magic happens when you plug the noise in between the texture coordinate node and mapping node.

If anything, it's a new year bump.

>> No.659416

>>659332

Nice thanks. I had the idea to do something like this, but I was too lazy and just hand painted it. I'd suggest using just a glossy shader, because the chrome font is imitating a metal, not a dielectric, so the diffuse technically isn't physically accurate. Apart from that, great shader :)

>>659416
Well this is more for that inside reflection with the mountains on the lettering. You'd put a real chrome shader on the body of the letters and then this on the front faces. Pic related.
Like I said, it's not a realistic effect (though you could do it by reflecting something similar with actual geometry behind the camera), but it's something just in case someone wants it.
Glad you like it though.

>>659418
I probably should have shown it wish some context of how it's used.
Here's a shitty viewport example. Things could probably be done with the Principled shader to make the output look better though. I was more focused on the effect.

>> No.661227

>>637415
How do I use this? The material pipeline library doesn't have anything in the actual file, the downloaded materials are just image files, and I'm not sure the addon will do anything. Do I have to set up the nodes myself or am I dumb as hell?

Well, for starters, no one really has open access to space to make HDRIs the same way someone with any camera can make their own. At best it's all NASA stitches. So that means people end up having to make their own space scenes, and those usually end up being paid.

Fuck off. If you're going to pretend to be better than people at least post something useful to the thread. As it stands you're no worse than the fag who jumped in just to say something useless about blender not having a feature that max has.

if you want animal references from specific angles it gives you an animal skull you can rotate in 3d space and it tries to match images for you.

theres a few free zbrush alphas here on his page. I don't think these were posted yet.

Not the most useful straight free resource for 3d but I'm including it anyways. 18 GB of reference photos for environment design.

I'm the only person to actually post free resources in the thread in nearly a month. Please don't shit up one of the only good threads on /3/.

Found a neato interior mapping setup for Blender. Works in Eevee too.
Not necessarily a texture, but it might find some use here. I dunno. It's pretty simplistic though, only one slider for depth, and floor shares the same texture as the ceiling. Still might be useful as long as you're not looking down into it.

In a similar vein, I've also found a nifty setup for some parallax occlusion mapping as well. Once again, like the interior mapping, it's far from perfect (lacks some self shadowing in crevices and stuff), but works perfectly fine within Eevee which is a plus. If anything, it should tide things over until something similar is added officially, since they're "working on it".
I haven't had a chance to use it in a project yet, but I've played around with it and it's pretty easy to understand.
Just make sure to swap out the texture inside the nodegroup that's duplicated like 20 times. It uses a height/displacement map. The output from the main node can be used straight up as the vector input for the regular PBR textures.

Like last time, hopefully someone finds a use for it.
