I made this using Arnold instead of iRay. I love the fast processing and the support for a standard PBR workflow is just fucking neat.

What renders are you guis using?

keyshot, toolbag and sometimes vray

How do you get that halo effect?

Vray, though Arnold would be my second choice for sure

Redshift. Nobody ever switches back once they start using it.

redshift shills everywhere

I think he means the glare effect (I guess that's lens flare? some camera defect at any rate), which I assume is done in post

Mantra, Arnold and Redshift depending on the project. Will be using Arnold mostly at the new studio I'm starting at

I love Redshift but its volume shader is garbage, and big studios won't switch to it for a fair while. Probably too late by then, cos Arnold/Mantra GPU will be out. But right now for freelancing and boutique studios Redshift is the best

I'm curious, what do you use Mantra mostly for? Do you use it for whole scenes?

Also, do you have an opinion on RenderMan? From what I read, the 22 release sounds really nice, with IPR integration in Houdini, and XPU planned for 2019.

I have used it for whole scenes yeah. I mostly use it because I'm more comfortable with shading and AOVs in it than Arnold, though I've been getting familiar with Arnold in prep for the new job. Some things are just simpler to do in Mantra so I opt for it a lot.

I haven't actually used Renderman, but I've only heard good things. Might look into it at the new release, but I haven't had the time to try it yet.

Renderman is hot garbage for an indie user, unstable and confusing and full of problems. I think it is designed for studios.
