I've just watched his video about "why you should not be a cheap artist"and he says that before trusting someone with your education you should see what he's done and if he's a real professional.

I've now checked out his info:

and he's not done anything at all except his website and tutorials. And also his wife is not beautiful at all. Can I trust his tutorials?

What are some better resources? Is CGCookie worth it? Right now I'm mostly interested in character and environment modeling, sculpting and animating for videogames.

CG Cookie has good tutorials for what interests you. But don't be focused on Blender, and explore other software too, relying on courses from Gnomon, Pluralsight and the like. Blender is only your gateway drug to 3D, but a pretty good one at that.

Since Zbrush happened, I don't think that purely technical skills are that relevant in modelling anymore. If you know how to sculpt IRL, you will learn how to sculpt in Zbrush, it's what it was made for. If you don't then watching internet "tutorials" won't help you that much. Gone the days of early zeroes when you needed thousand of technical tricks so your mesh WOULDNT LOOK LIKE TOTAL PIECE OF SHIT, and would look like awesome piece of shit instead. It's eventually shifting to WYSIWYG with focus on core artistic skills.

Also, I don't know your level, but again if you want to work somewhere you better pick one main area to focus on. Hard Surface Modelling, Character Sculpting, and Animation are literally 3 different roles in a company, and you wont have any chance of being noticed if you are just doing a bit of everything.

You want to animate? Download a rig and animate the shit out of it.
You wanna model? Get a reference and try to copy it as best as you can.
If you want to do both, and make your own short, it will take load of trial and error and the quality will initially be quite shiet.

It is so hard to avoid it though, especially with 2.8 release. There are no words that can describe how bad I feel that I need to go back to trash software just to git into industry when comfy things such as Blender exist. I probably should never have given it a try. It's extremely painful to go back to 3DS Max for me. Even tried Maya, but that didn't work out either. Also sucks that Modo is irrelevant as well. Only 2 pieces of software I truly enjoy and work super fast with are irrelevant in the industry, fuck me.

Nice! Gnomon really interested me, problem is, I'm not a professional and never will be as this is a side interest, so I can't really pay for a professional software licenses (not for the money in itself, but because I wouldn't really use the monthly fee as the time I dedicate to 3D highly varies month to month) and I don't like malware-ridden cracks, I'd like to stick to Blender. I could, though, explore techniques on Gnomon with Maya/3D Studio student licenses and apply them in Blender.

Questionable tactic. Granted, techniques do transfer, but they also can be software-dependent. My suggestion would be to look for notes rather than follow tutorials, since those tend to not be software-biased. For what I mean by notes, check the stuff in the sticky.
Also, don't waste your money on tutorials for things you don't own. That's just kinda backwards.
In fact, don't waste money on tutorials at all. The quality standard in the tutorial scene is just too varied. Some are good, sure, but most of the time they're just terrible. I used to follow his tutorials back when I started, they were okay albeit pretty long.
