SERIOUSLY HOW DO I HANDS! For a bit of background me and a buddy have been working on a game, modeling hasn't bothered us till now and if some kind person would post hand tutorials that would be great.

basically just start with a box, cut edges into one end, extrude fingers, extrude thumb from side, start shaping and refining. Use a reference template.

I used to extrude fingers and I ended up with a lot of robot hands. Best technique i've seen is to model the palm, and model a finger separately, then duplicate/scale that finger and place them on the arch fingers fall on. Then conform the palm mesh to that finger arrangement.

You will never be able to just model a hand and rig it and have it turn our ok.
You need to figure out where all the joints are and make sure your geometry can form a proper fist, grip, sign etc.
This image highlights how I go about it.

Once you've figured it out and gotten all the digits to just the right position and ratio, you use this geometry as a guide to build your hand mesh.

Start sculpting out a hand, you can cheat by creating a alpha and converting it into a object.

then begin blocking out your basic forms and build up detail and untill your getting more detail.
