I want to make 3D models for printing. I got ZBrush for shits and gigs. But after using it a bit it doesn't seem right for my purposes. I'm not trying to make hyper realistic models or anything like that. Should I even bother with ZBrush? I have some Blender experience and to me it just makes more sense.

Not using zbrush for 3d its like not using photoshop for 2d.

I just dont understand how to get straight edges and how to get the dimensions just right. Like how do you get a piece of the model to be exactly 5mm? It just all seems to squishy and vague.

You use a program such as from autodesk that actually encourages/allows you to use dimensions.
What kind of common sense makes you think "hmm, blender --> zbrush" for dimensioned models?

So you're saying, blender is better than ZBrush for dimensional models but not as good as Autodesk?

Yeah. Basically.
