Is there any tip/tricks on cutting down render time and fixing it in post?

Buy a better computer.

Stop using Blender Cycles, is the first step.

Depends on what you're trying to fix.

Use marmoset.

there are so many variables involved that no one can begin to answer this question without more info, and the answer is going to be particular to every different project.

Also post effects aren't always faster than rendering. If some depth of field affect is adding 2 seconds to each frames, but rendering out a depth map takes 0.5 seconds and it takes a photoshop script 3 seconds to open, modify, save, and close each frame, AND you have all the set up time then it's not really worth it.

For an amateur I'd say that there might be some super slick effect that's computationally expensive that some article convinced you all the pixar people use, but can be replicated with some trick well enough that you can get away with using.
Remember that in a 1024*786 youtube video no one's going to notice that the reflection on some dirty golden jewelry off in the background isn't perfectly raytraced up to 128 levels.

Dude, all OPs are ungrateful and the two or three trolls of this community waste their time replying with uneducated greentext opinions... all day long. Advice: you should just get out of this board, like I did.

I left 5 months ago and it seems like the same guys are still around. Trust me, don't even bother, it's a hopeless case.

OH WELL I GUESS EVERYTHING ELSE I SAID IS INVALID!

Just set the render time option to "0.1" it's right next to the "skyrim level detail" slider.

skyrim is pretty much the ugliest game in recent memory. It also has terrible animation. I dont know wtf they were doing over there in regards to quality control.

some renderers use gpu acceleration, look into that. from what I know, they arent really great yet and dont support every feature, but some may be viable to what you want to do, other than that take this phrase to heart

fake it till you make it.

look at video games, a long time ago they couldn't do real time shadows, but they still had shadows so how did they do that? they faked it.

what im trying to say is try to fake the process intensive effect as best you can. there will come a point when faking it takes more time than rendering it, but till than, just fake it.
