/3/ what is a good blender book for modeling? I'm a complete noob at 3D modeling so I suppose good book will be more helpful to get me started, than to search for random tutorials.

Here's a good blender book:

Don't use Blender

The only book I have ever seen for Blender is 'Blender for dummies' but that was for the 2.4x Blender. I suggest just researching online. Book are for nerds anyways.

No, time and lots of video turotials are the most helpful way to learn Blender (and most oher 3d packages).

The closest thing to a blender book that I've seen is the official docs, and those are shite. You're better off piecing together what you can from tons and tons of tutorials.

youtube tutorials are better.
If you want something more professional, you can look up the blender foundation DVDs.

If you're interested only in modelling, you can torrent the blenderella DVD.

I suggest you take tutorials for software with more tutorials (3dsmax), get accustomed to 3d modeling, then move to blender, using the wiki find what tools do what, how to navigate the interface, then continue to work on there.

>> No.400823

Use the video tutorials on vimeo, youtube and so on. Later you can also use tutorials for other programs (C4D, Maya, 3ds) for the more artistic things. It's always the same shit to do something, the programs do not really matter.

blender fucking sucks for modeling

i was modeling a simple block building and using the grid exactly and the snap to grid - minecraft shit - but somewhere along the line my vertices are off by .0002, now it's all fucked up the mesh when I try to export it to mudbox

shitty program, no rigor to it

You're in the wrong place to ask insightful questions about blender.

Go check out the blenderartists forums. If there's not a sticky for what you want, just post your question and you'll be answered by people who aren't 13 year old trolls.

Generally speaking though, if you're brand new and just want to get started modelling, you're better off with some tutorials. Work though the basic stuff and get used to the interface and common hotkeys. Make some cups and swords and stuff, waste some time with the array modifier, and once you're comfortable with the very basics, then look for a book. That way you're not going to throw away money if you decide it's not for you.

Also, make sure whatever books you get are for blender 2.6 or higher. 2.5 will work in a pinch, but anything 2.4 or earlier will probably only confuse the hell out of you.

no shit dumbass, but for every single vert? why did they become offset to begin with? the object is perfectly snapped to a grid intersection the entire time

and that did not work, ha

shortcut key a selects everything in object mode and shift s to snap to grid. When I mean each vert I don't mean individually if that's what you're implying. Also another thing if you didn't know is that snapping can be disabled if you're holding down ctrl while moving verts/edges/faces (the inverse is true if snapping is disabling and you move while ctrl is held down). What probably happened is that you were moving verts and must've pressed ctrl somewhere along the line without realizing it.
