Meh. Sculptris was fun. Kind of like the Sketchbook Pro of 3D apps. Super easy to whip up some 3D "sketches." And free to all. Don't see the problem.

I only started learning 3D sculpting a month ago, so sculptris is fine for me. Not worth downloading some shady crack of zbrush at the risk of fucking up my new build for something I'm still terrible at.

Best bet would be slip casting for the porcelain.
Get someone to C&C the shape out to whatever size you want(3d printing being way too expensive for something you'll only use as a mold base anyways)

Once printed, form a standard mold off of it, then proceed to acquire whatever flavor of ceramic slip you want for this and proceed to slip cast.

Additional info about slip casting is all over the place, but here's one example:
http://www.instructables.com/id/SlipCasting/#intro

Then kiln fire it, polish/paint it, and mail it.

>> No.373554

>>373527
Any idea what an average sized cookie jar would cost in terms of making the slip mold and then later making the actual jars?

For OP to realise what he'll be investing if he wants to start selling them and how many he'll need to sell before it's profitable

>> No.373571

>>373554
not much considering you pour out and reuse the slip you don't use in the first mold
all that depends is how big it is.

>> No.373703

From what I'd seen when looking around you'd be looking at 10-20 bucks a gallon of slip, depending on where you get it. Given that you can reuse what doesn't set at each casting, a gallon should get a few jars a go depending on size.

Your real cost would pretty much come from making the initial mold(since you'd need to get the model CnC'd) and whatever costs associated with the kiln.
Raw materials per jar should actually be pretty cheap.

15cm x 20cm isn't exactly a large ceramic cookie jar

could we perhaps do this as salt and pepper shakers?

>> No.374443

>>374424
Depends how big your cookies are. Also 20cm is only the height limit for ONE HALF of the jar. Since the 3D printer will print both halfs separately.

This is the capacity of one of the things if that's the case

3D printing is not suitable, just do a slip mold

solidoodle is like 600$ and goes waaaay larger
gets a 9X9 cube
plus
you can do it in two parts, doge head and actual cookie holding part

you have to use ceramic or you fuckers will get toxic cookies after 2 days of storage.

and ceramic means everything will look blobby with no sharp creases that form parts like eyes, parts of the snout, fangs etc.

No need for 3d printing.
We can order custom shaped cookie jars from independent companies, by making a kickstarter where jar is a bounty we can collect enough people to buy them wholesale.
