How the fuck do they model these things ? Especially the clothing and the small details look disturbingly natural. I'm pretty sure this isn't zbrush, its more likely a 3D scan with very high resolution, although I have no idea how they catch the cavities and stuff.

Is it possible to handmodel this ? Or is there a technological magic behind it ?

Just look at that awesome hair with alpha channels and the natural look of it.

Here are the wires. The topology is so goddamn efficient.

Nothing special going on here, decent artists is all. Models are not even that good.
I see photo-sourced texture on regular hand built mesh. probably textured the clothes first then sculpted in the deformations.

You sure man ? They look way too natural for sculpting. They don't give a single clue about the modelling technique.

They sell a single model for 500€ btw.

I'm sure. You texture your model with your photo sourced textures. Then you sculpt the same folds that is on the texture.
You can see in the normalmap only version that only the large scale structures of the folds are actually present in the sculpt.

This is 0% consistent with scanning.
It is 100% consistent with sculpting onto texture.

convert a photograph into a normal map and project it onto the mesh.

>> No.352575

>>352556
That'd take to much time, i'm sure they sculpt very basic folds to get it looking natural
and all the detailed folds are just the textures being put through Crazy bump and overlayed on the Basic normal map.

I see people do this with cloth patterns and zipper all the time.

I could do it within an hour myself. And yes, you'll use crazy bump or similar for the fine detail,
but actual true Z-depth is not part of the information in a photograph so you need to model in
that height information manually by doing the large scale tendencies if you want a quality result.
Doing such a pass is a very fast and straight forward procedure if you know what you're doing.

>> No.352590

>>352575
It's not some crappy extraction of Zdepth from a photo with Crazybump. It's a proper baked data from an actual 3D cloth model, either scanned, simulated or modelled.
These guys are too pro to use a cheap shortcut like Crazybump.

Multi-mesh brushes in ZBrush have gotten rid of the need to do that with zippers and many other things. And you can set up your brush to sculpt sew lines across edges with ease. Doing something like these completely in ZBrush is quite feasible, although you need to be quite the artist to get a face that realistic.

There's something about those eyes(I think) that just throws this right into the uncanny valley. It's a good model, though.
