Let's have a thread for discussing modeling VRchat avatars, worlds and assets.

>> No.788449

>>788323
/3/ is a really slow board, so if you want your thread to be a success (and I think VRChat is an on-topic and interesting discussion that is worth having its own thread for)
You need to make a bunch of on-topic posts with additional resources, links, webms, and stuff and maybe some low-key titties.

>> No.788451

>>788323
There's going to be more people in the vrchat general willing to discuss making things for vrchat, than you'd find here on /3/, it seems like an unnecessary move imo.

>Let's have a thread for discussing modeling
>pic related, an MMD model ported to vrchat
we're already off to a good start.

Finishing up this and now working on weight painting it. Is there any good guide on weight painting in Blender? I'm finding it a struggle to get things looking good. Don't know a good workflow for it.

>> No.790662

>>790621
parent the armature with automatic weights first just to get the vertex groups in then modify it, set your viewport to "flat" and "single" to see the weight values without textures and shading showing you false colours.

The straight up draw brush in weight painting mode is pretty useless I'd suggest using a combination of the smear brush and the blur tool. Hard drawing an edge out where you want it to bend then then blurring it = smooth gradient.

Move your own body parts and feel the surface of your body to get a grip on how you should weight things, for example, your ribcage shouldn't move every time you move your arm up and down.

You can edit the weights in edit mode by turning on view vertex weights under the viewport settings and just selecting loops and manually applying the values, this is another good way to get smooth deformation.

weight painting is all about practice and it WILL suck, just keep going.

google "unity mecanim" and look at the bone slots, vrchat doesn't use upper chest (chest only)

There we go, that's how to make your rig, the only other thing to look out for is by default it expects the eye bones to be pointing up instead of forward (although if you do it forward it's an easy fix in the avatar descriptor)

Some essential assets I use:
- Vroid Hub for models and textures
- Cats Blender plugin for rigging
- Dynamic Bone and for hair, clothes, and boobs
- Mixamo for gestures and dance moves
- UMotion Pro for customizing animations
- Anime Girl Idle Animations
- Real Toon for shading

Has anyone else had a problem with xiexie shader lately? Seems like the recent models i uploaded that use it lose the toon ramp and highlights in game, almost like it becomes flat lit.

Some autists are working on a metaverse thing running on godot engine https://v-sekai.org/, I wish them luck. There's also people trying to keep a high fidelity fork alive https://vircadia.com/ . hubs.mozilla.com/ is also open source and surprisingly good for browsershit. https://avatars.exokit.org/ is some other autist's attempt to do metaverse stuff in browser. afaict it's kind of dead, but I know the author was a cryptoshitter so maybe it'll get revived soon.
