Let's be honest, what are the chances that Blender will take the place of current applications such as zbrush and maya making them useless to learn?

>> No.805781

Blender is a generalist 3D application that does a reasonably good job of almost anything you can think of.

A generalist application is never going to match up to a specialist application, and well-monied industries are always going to be willing to pay extra for the top tier capabilities of specialist software.

The only area I ever hear about blender seeing serious use is in medical visualisation. I don't know enough about that to tell you why that is, but imagine medical industry has very different priorities when it comes to 3D graphics.

>> No.805789

Nope. Never gonna shake the stigma of hobbyist software.

Animation sucks, they are trying to hire Jason Schleifer to fix it, they need some specialist for the new node shitfest, Pablo will try to modernize the texture paint too .....

doesnt really need to, to be useful. It gives you a free alternative for a lot of parts of your pipeline and the better it gets the more pressure there is on commercial software to improve or at least lower prices. like with all foss software there will be retards in the fanbase, but the benefits still remain.

>> No.805795

It is already used a lot for modeling in the industry. Not much for anything else.

I think numerous big studios would have to switch over to Blender and hire developers to work on it for that to ever happen. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Blender might find itself the go-to program for more niche things however. Grease Pencil for example continues to see a lot of development and could replace some 2d/3d animation software.

pretty slim. two things need to happen - current standards suddenly going full SaaS jew and raising the sub costs beyond the capabilities of not only individual artists but medium sized studios and blender being split into several separate specialized packages each getting their own increased donation fund

To be fair, Photoshop has a huge power gap to any competitor. CG-software is more diversified and less monopolistic.

To be fair GIMP is not so bad because Photoshop is barely doing anything new to revolutionize and is only pushing subscriptions for a few features nobody ever uses. Adobe as a whole has been getting worse since it went that route. It's only a few big updates away from really being a good alternative.

Blender is not trying to become a standard. Much like Nintendo is not trying to have the most greatest and powerful console ever. I do think though it can be useful for small teams and those who are on a budget. It will get better as more people begin to contribute to it as in my view it's made huge progress in one year alone compared to the last 6.

Very small, because blender's goal was never to replace anything. Studios don't need generalist tools, their pipeline uses many specialized and even custom made tools instead. Blender is not bad at all, but it's also not what they need

Highly unlikely it'll take over Substance Painter or Modo--But its sculpting might be able to compete with ZBrush in a few years. But Blender needs to fix its broken per-datablock global undo before it even becomes usable in the industry as a whole, instead of dedicated hobbyists or an office of pajeets making finger family videos in eevee.

Nigger, I work in graphic design. Photoshop is barely ever used anymore. Not for art, not for wireframing and prototyping, not for photo processing, not for vector graphics, not for print design. It's nearly dead. Only poos use it to make booba bigger.
