Wait wait wait.... Is this going to be free as well? Holy shit, Epic is absolutely insane. I'm not a character artist so I'd LOVE to have a free option to create some fast shit like SpeedTree, so I can add some additional life to my scenes.

What is their end goal? I still can't believe how many tools they gave away for free.

I tried warning you. I tried repeating the message in different ways. I tried guiding you to the answer that the gates of "making it" were closing. You didn't listen. The prominence of the tech industry conglomerates has become too vast. Their reach will ensure that the little guy will be swept away in a mass of mud and rain, unable to compete because everyone will be flocking towards the promise of "easy game dev".

By controlling the software, they will control who will succeed and who will fall. Locking out competition from being able to produce and keep up, corporations will continue to develop software that will eat up the skillsets utilized by the exceptional little guys. Once these little guys are unable to eat at the profits of the mega-corporations, the monopolies, duopolies, and merge technocracies will be unstoppable. We already see this with social media, film and art. Hardcore alliances among the industry giants that stomp on any uprising the minority sends out. You are witnessing the closing grasp of an iron gauntlet around the little guys neck. You still don't believe me. You were never going to listen.

I will give you one final message. A word to the wise. A message to you: You have less than five years to make it. If you cannot create your financially successful game by 2025~, you will be locked behind the initial gate needed to persevere and compete against these gigantic bastions of control. Without millions of dollars in funding and net worth, you will not be able to compete in terms of skill, and will have to utilize "Marketing" like everyone else. Your days are numbered. Your time is limited. Get your games out now to make good money, or you will be just like everyone else - a sucker. The days of the exceptional are over. The time of the mediocre is now.

Oh yeah the pioneer's age in games it's over. But it's been over for two decades. You don't have greater chances of making it in the industry as an "indie", than by working for some established studio.

As the barrier of entry lowers, more people will be able to work in this industry, not less. We've seen it with the explosion of productions, both big and small. And consumer demand for this sort of content keeps increasing. There may be more people at the table, but the cake has grown bigger.

Nevermind, Ducky from above. I rescind my gloat, this thing is garbage for real use case. Your warning of being squashed by the big corporations is still real, but this is just another slow crawl. You still only have until 2025 though. Explanation:

-Cloud based, Web Browser/Package Downloader akin to the garbage CC3 that shitters use
-Costs money to blend some morphs online and import into your package alongside an impractical skeleton.
-Limited morph sets. Likely going to be more added but right now you're literally going to see a preset endeavor unfold, leaving the masses with lookalikes and samefaces. It will be relatively easy to spot the piss poor skills utilized alongside the sterilized corporate character models. Character artists currently have nothing to fear.
-Impractical control rig inside UE4. Better to just use rigs inside Maya with CJs and bake out the animations instead.

Best use case is to tear their "implementation" apart and take what you need from it. I suggest looking at their pose drivers, materials, and how they setup clothing. Component rigs are really cool, I already had one setup but theirs also has some more details I missed from their documentation. I suggest downloading the same project. All in all, this is something that will bring more water up towards the neck, but only one to two inches. Not much will change except more shitters will think they have a chance at making it. For any character artist this is your godsend to get you working in Unreal, but not by using their intended work method. Pick and choose what areas you're struggling with right now, you'll likely find it in there and be able to inform and expand your ability.

What a shit heap lol.

>> No.801291

cont:

One thing that must be noted is that the facial animation is a legitimate achievement. By adopting their facial rigs and paralleling yours to theirs, you will be able to achieve similar if not outright copies of their quality on your own custom characters (not brought in by their meetahooman garbage). The use case is indie available facial animation at little to no setup cost. Prepare for a lot more walking simulators with more cinematics, akin to Gone Home but you sit around talking for ten thousand hours talking to a lesbian(s) about (t)he(i)r period(s). I would say that there are few indies that actually care about motion cap facial animations in game, and the ones that do are boomer retards.

Still, download the sample.

You bought into the shilling of retards, you have nobody but yourself to blame. That said, asset packs like that provide source assets for a reason: you're supposed to modify them to fit your work (your game, in your case). I've just been making do with Fuse to add some people to my work, but this looks pretty cool. Never really got the point of making people from scratch since you'll always know it's off if you can't pull it off well enough. So it'd bring down the entire work if there's something slightly wrong with the person. And making people was never really my focus.

Fuse was alright, but the people made in it never stood up to much scrutiny, so I'd always have them far from the camera, more for the silhouette of a person for the mind to fill in the details themselves. Maybe with this I can get some people closer to the camera. Here's hoping the clothing included is somewhat decent and has some variety to build up and on.

Granted, I'll still have to actually be able to animate them well, but this is a decent start. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Will you literally be able to make any face you want, cloning celebrities and people you know?
If the answer is yes, there is about to be a huge market for accurate models to be used in porn.

There is, that's what I'm saying.

>Just because an old tool doesn't do something well doesn't mean that a new one can't.
A tool is only as good as its user. Daz looks like shit because the people using it are shit. If the same autists who make shitty celeb Daz porn got their hands on this, it'll still look just as shitty. It doesn't matter how good a tool is, if those autists can barely match a celebrity likeness with sliders in Daz, they'll be hard-pressed to do the same in anything else.

I think the problem might be that Daz is somewhat obscure to the general public, it's harder to get into.
Metahumans is literally going to be a web tool that runs on every machine regardless of computing power, hard to get more accessible than that.
The end result is that it's going to have a much wider userbase than Daz could even dream of.
I grant that it'll only be as good as the time and effort people are willing to invest, but ideally a wider userbase will lead to more people willing to put that effort in.

>> No.803976

>>803948
That's true, sure, but the people with the time and skill to invest into making a proper celeb likeness probably won't do so due to the potential fallout and legal ramifications. Which leaves the autists to pick up the torch, and we all know their track-record.

Speaking of Nanite, those are instanced though. Idk what would happen if you had hundreds of different assets with high polycount in the scene. Having 500 exact copies wasn't really a real world example. I do wonder how that will potentially change asset creation workflow in the future.

This is a comparison of the eye glamour shots from both the Metahumans and CC3 trailers.
You'll have to forgive the fucked up black bars, there's no avoiding it.
Depending on how accurately you believe the trailers represent the respective products, this is going to be a ridiculous improvement over CC3.

>> No.806012

>>805993
it opens up the floodgates only for props which have little issues with optimizing to begin with. everything is very easily baked in into the maps. it may be good for blendmask workflow when there's no unique materials, just a preset of stuff with blending masks.
for char art this means jack shit becaue tell me how you gonna rig dem million polys and tell me where you gonna get a pixar supercomputers to calculate real time vertex movement during deformation.
which we clearly seen at the reveal. we had retarded high poly rocks and stupid cartoony women from 2016 at best. metahuman looks like it wants to fill the gap, but overall i'm still skeptical.
biggest issue with real time is, well, real time. considering current trend of being poor, no one will have powerful systems or consoles to run these 12 gb high poly rocks. simply because no matter how you gonna decimate that fucking rock, it's still a 12 gb high poly rock. in a world, where 1060\2060\3060 is your standard platform. whatever.
in general, epic is just retarded. they missed out on megatextures, their engine is a captive of it's own shading and quircks, it's a giant mess to modify and build mechanics, blueprints are a neat idea, but all together it all comes down to half-assed, barely working adventure-shooters which look the same. in a world ruled by game design with ps3 graphics at best and populated by poor people. fortnite didn't teach them a thing. astonishing.
it's gonna be ok only if it runs in a cloud, but cloud won't cover anything outside big cities, and developers don't want to miss out on 70% of population.
