Offtopic, but will people ever grow bored of stuff like this? Even though I myself work on photorealistic stuff as well, I became more and more bored of dirty, grungy, old, worn out props and postapocalyptic scenes everyone posts. More disgusting and old the prop is = the better. Anyone noticed that? Of course, the reason for that is that you can push more details in, while the new things are cleaner and simpler texture-wise, but I don't see the point anymore.

There is barely any creativity involved in a hyperrealistic dirty soviet wash machine that gets 3000 likes on ArtStation, yet everyone is constantly amazed over technicalities and the amount of time it went to slap a bunch of old stickers, stupid messages written in a sharpie, cobwebs, broken glass, rust everywhere, roughness detail to 100 etc.

That's a craft that involves carefully analyzing photo references and replicating them as best as possible, not art. I've seen too much of those and can't seem to give a fuck anymore. Give me something interesting and fresh to look at.

Realism is the highest of high art, as the category is actually just a stylization of reality. By being able to completely fool the audience, in turn you can persuade and manipulate them into believing anything. In time, realism will turn into simulated experiences, and the games we call "art" now will be considered childrens toys to what the future has in store. At that point games and film become one, and they become virtual and simulative experiences of largely, anything. An infinite web of choices, stories, and experience. It will be used from anything to corporate and labor jobs, to degenerate sexual stimuli. The most thought provoking, philosophic ideas humans have to offer, all the way to the dumbest, most slap-stick humoring you can imagine. You grow bored because "realism" is not at the level required to be convinced, so you are looking for a simpler stylization (maybe) to assuage your defeatism.

But I do agree with you, its become entirely cyclic.
