Why are 3D artists such oblivious cyclejerking losers, that they always compliment each other on their next grey lifeless CGI monster and not realize normal people are sick of it?
Even when initial trash sonic Design was made other "pro"s in comments were praising it, no one dared to say it looked like shit before it was too late. whole Artstation 3D community is one big cyclejerk.

That's the consequence of PC culture. I remember back in 2007, the tone on 3D forums was much more real and rough occasionally.
3D forums were packed full with people - nobody was using facebook or whatever, and there were long threads with discussions.
And yes, people hated on each others models and complained about "lifeless blobby ZBrush abominations" all the time.
That was also before everything was outsourced to Indians and Chinese.
good times

sounds like 3D forums were lot like 4chan back then
unfiltered and sometimes bitter for sake of being bitter but still better than this overly PC shit
oh and forgot to mention this critique immunization only applies to you if you are "pro" a.k.a work at big studio/have followers, if you are independent or beginner artist you will still get shit on, its only after u pass certain threshold where suddenly even your turd is praised

Bullshit, back then as now most people arent looking for feedback, especially amateurs that even if you told them what you did wrong would not know how to fix it.
It was like this back then and is like this now. And pros often dont look for it and rather ask people they know are good for opinions that random strangers.
Amazing art is still produced, as is shit art, been like this always and will be like this.

Polycount is the same cunt tone wise as always, meanwhile social networks are the same circle jerk.
And dunno what forums you went to, but i did to max zbrush and mudbox, mudbox is dead, zbrush forums stayed the same, and where nobody took sculpting seriously due to its technical limitations it quickly became a standard and nobody complained it looks likes stretched polygons into a shape anymore when baking maps became a thing.
Not to mention sculpting left polymodeling for characters behind, while you could hear coping angry mayalets insulting people using other software those people were ether left behind or had to adjust and learn too.

>normal people are sick of it?
Who gives a shit about "normal people".
Who are you producing art for, yourself? For a folio? To flex on other artists? Or for facebook likes?

if you are artist making money and working in industry you're making money for normal people to consume. nobody pays you for your personal project
sonics redesign was forced by normal people
studios and movies go bankrupt when normal people dont get product they wanted
thats why this cyclejerk is dangerous slippery slope
you only get opinions from likeminded "experts" and expect to appeal to wide audience your product is for

OP have you ever looked at the artstation front page, it's full of a variety of different art styles and mediums. My artstation is nothing but the type of content I like to see

VFX is artistically bankrupt because hollywood is artistically bankrupt.

sounds like you're just butthurt that you have to actually get good at 3d in order to gather attention, that's how the world works buddy.

Every 3d forum or discord (with the exception of /3/ of course) I've been on was generally quite accepting of beginners so long as you don't have an attitude problem.

I dont have artstation page yet im still working on my portfolio
i said this out from observation of comments artists get
ive seen beginners do things ive never seen by professionals and still get judged way more harshly just because they dont have same reputation

also since you seem experienced i got few questions
what would you suggest, making artstation page that is focused on one aspect, like creature art and concepts only, or game ready models only or 2D illustrations only or can i just be jack of all trades? since i enjoy different things i dont really know where to narrow it down but i think showing 1 strong side is more marketable than showing many of them

One of the saddest image i've ever seen... All that work to end up with what looks like a drawing of medium quality.

You’re pointing the gun at the wrong person. 3D artists are seasonal employees with no jurisdiction over character design or style. They’re handed an idea and told to realize it. If they’re lucky they might be given a text description that allows some creative input but not always. The most crucial designs are always handled by the directors or other high ranking or senior developers, NOT the 3D artists unless they fill in the position that does both which is *rarely* the case.

rendering and quality of 3d model is more of an issue than design itself

Nepotism obviously. If you criticize professionals you "don't get along well with others". If you suck up you're "enthusiastic and have a shared vision". Nobody is going to recommend to HR the guy that took a dump on their latest demo.
