I just started learning Blender this week and my renders are super noisy too.
How do I make them noise-free? Do I just check the denoiser box and set it to a high number of samples?
Is it just a matter of having a powerful computer and/or leaing it render for longer, or there's something that would make me bypass the problem entirely?
Do other expensive programs have this noise problem too?

Noise is unavoidable when working with raytracer or path-tracers, all those renderers have this problem. It can only be solved by more rendertime, or use of better algorithms.
Denoising works best when used for removing the last percent of noise, it needs something to work with.

>> No.691051

Does Blender have a bad algorithm or it's just used by a lot of beginners who don't know how to reduce it?

>Is this the same thing that other programs and/or rendering engines use?
When they render, yeah
Most programs have ways to get rid of noise with ease, but by default blender doesn't do it, which is bad for first time users

I have a shitty machine that can't run 2.8 for some reason (it works perfectly until I touch the materials tab, at which point it just crashes), and modelling on Cycles is frustrating because I have to wait so long before seeing the results of anything I'm doing.
Are there other real time programs that can render in real time like Eevee, or do they all work like Cycles?

>> No.691237

>>691229
You do not model while cycles is running. WTF man?
Just use the normal viewport and when you are done modelling, unwrapping, texturing, then you use and setup the renderer. You only need to touch the final renderer when you start working with materials and light.
Also why the fuck don't you start from the beginning and learn some basics. You seem to be way to deep into things you have no clue about. Go and watch 10 hours of Blender for Noobs tutorials before asking people to feed you basic stuff and hold your hand.
You don't even know the basic concepts, ffs.

>> No.691242

There is a material view or even texture view.
And my friend had an old FX cpu and blender doesn't like that too much.
Getting something new(er) would help a lot, gpu side of things eh.

That's exactly what I do.
It all works fine until I start working on things that require Cycles, at which point it becomes a chore and makes me want to drop 3D modelling altogether.
And since what I plan on using Blender for (backgrounds for graphic design and possibly simple videos) uses very simple models and is all based on textures and materials, I can't really get away with this workflow.

>Also why the fuck don't you start from the beginning and learn some basics. You seem to be way to deep into things you have no clue about. Go and watch 10 hours of Blender for Noobs tutorials before asking people to feed you basic stuff and hold your hand.
I'm currently going through the donut tutorial (pic related) and I've watched a few videos on how to improve the performance, but it's still extremely frustrating, so I'm looking for options that I might've missed, before I drop 3D modelling completely.

>>691242
Yeah, as soon as I can afford it I'm getting a better computer, but that day might be quite far so I have to work with what I have for now.

If you think this basic stuff is extremely frustrating, then maybe you should quit, it doesn't get easier and if on top of it you hardware is extremely bad then it makes no sense.
You need some serious horsepower to render stuff, be it a GPU or CPU.

>> No.691310

>>691245
How long did that take you? Most sane people render small previews or regions then use renderfarms for their final.

>> No.691314

>If you think this basic stuff is extremely frustrating, then maybe you should quit, it doesn't get easier
I'm not sure we're understanding each other.
The only thing I find frustrating is sitting there waiting for the program to show me what I'm doing for everything I click. If I had better hardware there wouldn't be any frustration at all.
I don't find normal 3D modelling tasks frustrating (actually I like them a lot).

>if on top of it you hardware is extremely bad
On top of what?
The hardware being bad is the one and only problem here.

>You need some serious horsepower to render stuff, be it a GPU or CPU.
I know, but at the end of the day I don't have that, so I'm trying to find the best (or rather, least bad) solution for my circumstances, so I can dcide if it's worth continuing or not.

>>691310
>How long did that take you?
A few minutes.

>Most sane people render small previews or regions then use renderfarms for their final.
I just rendered the image to show the guy that I did watch tutorials before worrying about this sort of stuff.
I don't render the full image every time I want to see what I'm doing. I use the viewport with the shading set to "rendered" or "material".

>> No.691342

imo, there's so much to learn besides rendering. your skills are not going to waste if you don't render right away but do it later.

However, you seem more interested in graphic design and composition rather than 3d modeling, so perhaps blender isn't the right software.

If the render times are killing you, try going eevee, then finalizing in Cycles until your hardware gets better

Also do preview renders in lower quality before you commit to a full high quality render. High quality renders inherently take time. So try to get the look down in lower quality.

True, but it's still part of the process, and I can't avoid it for however long it takes me to get a powerful computer.

>>691350
Unfortunately as soon as I open the Material tab in Eevee the whole program crashes.
