New Zremesher is great and the folder system, eventhough it is a basic thing that should be there a long time ago, is welcomed.

Everything else is bullshit...they should make the program more intuitive, improve Zmodeler to become at least worth using ( right now you can simply open any 3d program and do the same 10X faster) and some better uv tools.

>> No.671081

Are they going to add in real saving rather than that anti-user bullshit they have now?

Are they going to get rid of that alien UI and switch to the standard tools that Adobe/Blender/Autodesk uses to convey stuff

Are they going to add in a noticeable edit mode vs moving object mode and not require you to 'draw' the model you want to work on first?

Then GET THE FUCK OUT

How the fuck has no one made a zbrush alternative yet? Obviously the way it stores and displays geometry has merit. Everyone that tries to build an alternative just uses conventional polys or voxels and it never does the same thing.

AFAIK their "pixol" tech is proprietary, and given that it's basically what makes ZBrush ZBrush they're never going to license it elsewhere. Plus, it's been maturing for 20 years now, highly doubt anything can just come in and disrupt its place in the industry.

The patents all appear to be for crappy 2.5d stuff no one uses. All that is really needed is someone who understands how it works to explain it properly so an experienced programmer can write a similar rendering engine.

If 3D Coat didn't have that weird jesus shit behind it I'm pretty sure more people would use it since it's an infinitely better tool with a UI that doesn't look like it was designed by a blind person with downs syndrome.

Sadly our only hope for competition is if they go and do what allegorithmic did or they stagnate for too long.

If only they had a direct competitor to drive innovation instead it's going to be minimal effort just above stagnation because it's not like they can lose users what will they use? Sculptris? That's a joke that brings in my next point

Software devs are shitty and unless the competition isn't from a larger company or is similar to blender then pixologic will just buy them out.

Again though, it's voxel based, it's better at some things but people just want zbrush without the cancer. I researched a little more, some people seem to think zbrush is a normal subd system. They theorized that it only differs in two main aspects compared with other 3d programs. A software render engine that is mainly impacted by number of pixels rendered rather than polygon count. Secondly some sort of method to reduce the cpu and ram footprint of storing and editing models, one theory was it is entirely integer based, when you import an object it just scales it to zbrush's internal integer values. It was also suspected it contains large amounts of code written in X86 assembly, which might have been worth the small gains 20 years ago but made it a nightmare to work on now, hence 64bit support took so long and development is stagnant.

It's against the EULA. If they cancel your license, you would have to either pirate their software, or bring them to court, and win, if you wanted to continue using 3DCoat.

I am in the EU and their EULA is non-binding, and they can't enforce it in a legal sense. Even if it wheren't so how are they gonna find my identity and proof that i did it with their software?
Its totally not practicable.
Should not also doesn't sound like i cannot.
Correct me if i am wrong but is that an absolute statement or their wish? How legal binding is that wording in the US?
>In correspondence to international laws
There are no international laws that protect a company to impose their will on the creative freedom of artists. That's a freedom of speech thing and as far as i know this weights more heavy in the favor of the artist.
How could they cancel my license if i own an permanent license? How is that legal?
Do they give back the money?
Assuming if i where outside of the EU and they would cancel my license and i don't get my money back i would
crack it and use it anyways, if they have a problem with that they can sue me.
Like i said, totally not practicable.

>> No.671405

>>671398
>Should not also doesn't sound like i cannot.
I think this is key. Practically, their EULA states that they want us to pretty please not do anything pornographic with 3D Coat. It doesn't read "shall not". So I don't even know why they bother keeping it there, as it arguably wouldn't have the effect they probably intend for it.

>> No.671432

>>671409
The biggest problem I had with zbrush wasn't actually interface(I don't know where this meme started, it's pretty good actually compared to >max or >blender)
It's their weird ass camera. They unconstrain it on all axes by default which is pretty busted if you ask me and takes some time to get adjusted. Also the weird gestures needed for navigations. Luckily it's all customizable and camera can be constrained back.

>> No.671483

>>671409
As a newcomer to ZBrush, I can say that while the interface itself is fine, there's definitely something fucky about the default experience. Camera controls is a good example. Who the fuck thought "ah yes, let's have users hold down this and this in order to zoom" and what not? Why not just implement basic mouse button orbits/zooms with a simple modifier to pan and shit? Then there's just a bunch of small little convolutions like the transpose gizmo nonsense. It's entirely removed from basic 3D DCC knowledge even more so than something like Blender.
Also something about double standards blah blah this is the usual excuse given to Blender's UI by blendlets too ("it's not hard!! you're just stupid!!") can we all just accept that others can be unfamiliar and require time to adjust?

>> No.671485

>>671483
>Why not just implement basic mouse button orbits/zooms with a simple modifier to pan and shit?
Oh yeah, same anon here, I remember hearing something about how this was because "it was designed for usage around tablets". Even then, tablet-based camera controls don't have to be that far removed from basic controls. Back when I was a dumbass sculpting with Blender, controlling the camera was easy as holding down one of the pen buttons to orbit, shift to pan and ctrl to zoom. None of that "hold this, then hold that, then release, and zoom!" nonsense.
It's just a bizarre and esoteric experience.

to be honest, transpose is VERY powerful tool - IF you get used to it. pixologic seem to realise it's not for everyone and not really wise to throw n00bs into the jaws of le transpose man, so they got rid of it in favour of regular gizmo by default in never versions though...

I will never get over the fucking irony of having to run an AutoHotKey script to use ZBrush properly with my tablet, because you can't remap the keys and my stylus doesn't have buttons in a location that would be convenient enough to have a finger on at all times with the way I hold it. Funnily enough though I get by just fine with the defaults when I'm using a mouse.

>> No.672149

>>671483
>>671485
>"ah yes, let's have users hold down this and this in order to zoom"

It is fucking retarded to the point that I used to run some script to attach zoom to the scroll wheel (as it should have been from the beginning).
Finally I found out from some tutorial video that you don't actually have to hold down alt/click and hold/ let go of alt to zoom.
Instead, just tap alt then quickly (you have a split second) click and hold the mouse key while the cursor is in empty space, then drag to zoom in/out. You avoid the key juggling bullshit. Saved me a lot of trouble.
I haven't seen any mention of that "functionality" in official documentation and a lot of beginner tutorials just go off the "press/click/hold/let go" shit that it barely gets mentioned by anyone.

>> No.672177

>>672149
Why would you want to use the scroll wheel in ZBrush?

>> No.672185

>>672177
When using ZModeler I prefer using a mouse as opposed to my tablet. Scroll wheel zoom feels more natural to me when doing push/pull shit.
With the alt tap method it's not something I bother with anymore.
