Firing Zbrush, i´d say you start with a sphere, but you actually starts with you SCALE MODEL. The entire sculpting, retopology and UVW unwrapping is handled automatically by Zbrush - you just paint the weight controls, everything else is done by computer.

I don't use Z-Brush since I don't have enough money to afford its commercial license yet so I'm using Blender. I'm not creating all the topology by hand, I'm using the Skin modifier for the body, I lay down the vertices and set each one's thickness, and the Blender takes care of the body shape and topology. I think the modifier was inspired by Z-Brush. In 30min. I have a body "from scratch" and in 2h I have a more precise one.

Any deforming issues it has is far less to do with the tris and more to do with how much of a mess the auto weight mapping made of particular areas, and my attempts to fix it, despite spending days on it, never turning out great. Mainly around the hip joints it's just a complete mess, as you can see with the render above. The rest of her is surprisingly not completely terrible. The lip controls especially I'm surprised work as well as they do.

Part of the point is "I don't want it potentially spreading without decent textures.", exporting a .obj had crossed my mind to facilitate the making of textures, but then the problem is the geometry is now out in the wild, meaning anyone could slap some garbage textures onto it, shove a rig into it and go to town. Though given how inept people seem to be with taking models and actually doing anything with them I don't know how valid that worry is. Though again this is /3/, there's a higher concentration of people who actually know how to go through the process than not.

How would you handle the way UVs can warp in ways that don't really reflect the way they look on the model? Those eyes are shaped nowhere close to how they are on the actual mesh, the quills are definitely not that square, the boobs have way less UV coverage compared to the surrounding area, etc.
