so I was getting tired of the awful seams in the iris region, and merged the sclera and iris material regions into one, I also merged the lips with the face material region... why isn't this by default? the lips especially has no need for a separate texture, no? even if you want separate colors for the lips, you'll still need to supplement another (most likely) high-res texture...
at first glance this looks ten times better and I rid myself of 3 material regions using resources for no reason (cba to confirm if it did lower resource consumption).
my guess that it makes it easier to create your own textures? no idea honestly

With this you can port the genesis 8 models and any morphs to maya 8 where you can easily animate it thanks to auto set up human IK rig
All the morphs are ported to maya, even the joint controlled morphs, so the figure will deform correctly just like in DAZ

Furthermore you could change the shape of the figure mid animation.
Think about what this means for easily made porn with actual good models. Someone spread this to animators. So many possibilites (belly deformation, cum inflation, etc.)

An approach for creating hair we used for almost 3 decades. It's good enough when decently done, but it's a fill rate killer in real time applications and is prone to shimmering/aliasing.

For offline rendering it's probably no longer the way to go.

Pros of cards are that any hardware can render it and you can provide a large number of deformers to simulate basic physics. Cons are a very limited degree of realism in animation and more complex issues involving longer hair (e.g. the way it spreads out when lying flat) really aren't simulated well with cards which fundamentally operate on a locks rather than strands basis.

Daz is a tool, a utility. The character meshes are solid and free to use so why not use them to save time? A few morphs and simple clothes, a different render engine and poof! You've just saved yourself a few years learning character creation.Plus you can export the rigs.

The biggest issue is conversion. DAZ is fairly inflexible when it comes to moving things cross-program, and you often lose features like morphing as well as experiencing things like rigs breaking. There are methods, but they're long and tedious and most people usually don't want to go through the process. Plus, all the shaders are already built for Iray. If you moved things to a different platform, you'd have to set up all the materials again. Not saying that that's difficult, but people can be really lazy. So, in short, it's just inefficient to do so.

Outside of the film industry, most 3D figures are hollow rigid bodies in either A or T poses and joint bending is a deformation governed by "bones" whre additional deformers keep the limb bends rounded instead of sharp.
Actual muscular bulges as a result of these bends, when they exist, are additional deformers intentionally built into the figure and how that's done is a matter of which technology makes more sense for the figure and for the application.
For example you aren't generally going to see realistic scapulae movements from the back because the necessary mechanics to swivel, bend or turn a figure's arm socket don't rely on an actual shoulderblade.

There probably isn't much difference here. Poser was originally designed as a simple manikin posing application for exactly that purpose.

My exact issue is Maya crashing on imports because Daz stuff can get very detailed, but it doesn't make sense to me as maya should be able to handle it.
The only way I get tings to work is going body, then hair, then clothes, sometimes have to do clothes separately. It's just so tedious not being able to import them together.
Once everything is inside then Maya is smooth, I rarely crash when I'm actually working, it's just on importing.

You have to redo them obviously, this is what templates are for. I also export everything to Maya for re-rigging, animation and rendering. The thought of doing more than preparing/shaping/dressing a character in DAZ makes me sick.

I salvaged a lot of older assets this way, by redoing surfaces/rigging completely. Poser/DAZ artists made a lot of cool creatures over the years, but you need to put in some extra work to get them on a certain level.

These days I'm genuinely more excited about new creature and monster assets than about the x-th variation of some blonde bimbo. I wish more people would do interesting creature designs.

Serious answer though, probably just find a suitable endoskeleton model (definite bonus points if you make it yourself), create the appropriate morphs so it stays in shape with whatever body morphs you're using, then drag your body mesh into ZBrush and sculpt out all the missing "damage" points. Transfer those as HD morphs, create the appropriate textures around the damage points, viola. The intersections probably won't look that good, and you'd have to further create normal maps for the damage areas to look right (all the high detail skin tears and loose skin, etc.), but for a DAZ-compatible setup it should be about there.

Funny that. Months ago I rendered on cpu, and took a weird pleasure into setting my scenes just right and rendering it over several days, setting up everything perfectly and doing it again and again.

Now I have a GTX 1070 and render the same scene in one hour, and I have lost all my drive. It's just not the same. My PC isn't even shutting down because the cpu was too hot anymore. The last time my Windows froze was months ago. My fans don't even go into overdrive. Nowadays I just click on render and voilà, it lost all its luster, all its mystical atmosphere.
