How can I create trees like those on the left?

Super simple:

-Download program of choice
-Learn said program
-Study organics
-Make organics in program of choice

There you go friend!

I suppose I should elaborate, I use blender and import into Unity. "Studying organics" seems like an extensive operation for the task. I am mainly wondering how the alpha effect can be done for the extruding leaves on the far left image.

Use the question thread next time instead of creating a new thread.

To just answer you and close off this thrad: you have to learn how to create hand painted models. Legit google those words and you will see plenty of tutorials and shit. Throw in tree and you should find exactly what you want. the main pieces are simple geometric shapes with hand painted textures ontop, and the small protrudint leaves are just double sided planes with alpha textures on them.

Also, most importantly, those models seem to be cel shaded or atleast custom shaded so you will have to learn that as well. (again, google it)

look for "alpha transparency" and "grass boxes"
also "shadeless material" or "unlit" in unity

Don't give advice to others on things you have no idea about.

this board have a fascination with making cartoons in 3D
at this point i think most people here will benefit of just practicing 2D instead of 3D

People here should know that 2d is shit

What the hell are you talking about?

Looks similar to this, OP: https://simonschreibt.de/gat/airborn-trees/

the leaves are just a couple of spheres with a few planes attached with transparency, shouldn't be hard to do

You can fuck right off as long as you can't copy 2D styles perfectly in 3D.

I was under the impression that most people here go for "muh realizm" and just fail miserably.

picture you've posted explains it pretty fucking well, what more do you need?

just buy the model

its quite the opposite, most people here do cartoon stuff and fail.

as you can see from OP's thread. HOW DO I DO THIS etc etc
there is no clear answer because its hard as fuck, its like asking how to model a B52

>> No.612898

>>612897
It's not. People like to point out that too much "cartoon" shit goes around but this is unjustified. The WIP threads have a very healthy mix of hard surface, guns, "realistic" models, anime models, cartoony models, environments, cars and studies of miscellaneous things.

Those are the regulars here, so it's only fair that we judge what the board is into by what they're doing. The rest of these threads are filler. If you were to filter out all the software shilling you'd have a point I guess, but most of these threads end up being by complete rookies who have no idea what they're doing and quit a week later at most or straight up shitposting that gets five replies and falls off the board.

Don't take the catalogue as representation of what this board is actually into. If you do, then you'll just find out that this board isn't actually into modeling anything of any style, it's into shitposting and software shilling.

Here's how I would do it:

>Make mesh
>Pick a few shades of green and brown that look nice together.
>Hand paint textures onto the the model
>Take texture into something like crazy bump, and make a really smooth normal map
>Hand paint some clusters of leaves in photoshop or GIMP, with a transparent background
>Import those images as planes in 3D software
>Use a particle system to place them on the trees

i'm sorry for all the non-helpful advice on here.

I was a lead foliage artist at my last job on a stylized game. I used speedtree most of the time but for a tree like this you could model it easily in any modeling package. Sometimes I'll even use zspheres in zbrush to build the trunk/branches.

The tree in this pic is so simple, using just blobs for the bulk of the leaves, and then jamming a bunch of cards with alpha cutout into the blobs to get the leafy silhouette to it. Before hand painting this i'd get it all modeled first with solid colors and the alpha leaves in.

Good luck!
