Why is everything made in Blender that attempts to look competitive with current gen quality, always look like a cheap rip off? Those slightly overly-exaggerated facial proportions, the 'i'm clearly trying too hard' eye shape. The skin shader that just barely misses the realism check. The material on the jacket is the worst offender; looks like something from a decade ago.
Once again Blender proves that despite their best efforts they will never be competitive. I'd actually prefer to move to freeware like Blender, but it's hard to want to use inferior shitware.

Call me retarded, but as much as I hated that feature the first time I opened Blender, now I can't live without it. Just think about how many times you have to click on that little gizmo in order to transform your object, removing that workload from my fingers is too good and I can work more without feeling the hurt.

I heard Modo has crazy customization options so I'm interested if it can at least be changed to work in some other way where I don't have to constantly click on the right axis to move something every 2 seconds. Please give me a legit answer if you know it, I need it so bad if possible.

in the case of GIMP i understand. that's because the developers intentionally fucked their own software to the point where its a mess. but if they will just correct some stuff here and there, its still a worthy competitor to photoshop.
so lets say that autodesk employees are pro's that get paid very well for their work.

Sorry kid. /3/ is one of the saddest boards on this platform. Not in the /r9k/ sense of sad, just in the general sense of no-happiness. If you're not watching the endless arguments over Blender vs Autodesk apps, you're just watching a bunch of anons trying to help each other make it into The Great Industry. There's a reason why this board is as slow as it is. Everyone's focused on just trying to make it.

this is the entirety of the blender mindset, its about memorizing trivia rather than acquiring a solid knowledge of a interfaces foundation and how to use it as a tool. un-intuitive scattered interface excused only by people who have fully bought into the blender delusion because they are either to cowardly or stupid to obtain proper software. Its no wonder that most of the stuff that comes out of blender is the most bland generic industry groveling crap that fills the portfolios of hundreds of amateur portfolios. it comes from the baby mindset of coddled by education through hand holding tutorials and blender orthodoxy that neither requires nor allows abstract thinking, creativity or experimentation within.

Stopped reading after that. "Trivia" is a knowledge of hotkeys? Your statement doesn't even make any sense. Just because you know hotkeys means you don't actually know how to use the tool, or how to use the interface (why would you, at that point, anyway?) Not defending Blender, but this is pathetic. To each his own, I guess. I like hotkeys, and prefer having a keyboard close (it helps I don’t need to look at it to type). My preference for hotkey-based UIs is what leads me to chose Emacs over Atom, for example, as well as Blender over Maya, where functionality is the same for what I’m trying to accomplish.

The keyword is “preference”. We shouldn’t compare software on such basis. It is futile; there will never be broad agreement, because there can’t be.

How do I make a rig like this in Blender?

Rigs like that are usually accomplished with similar tutorials like the second one you linked. Most of what's shown in the first one has added steps to it, like those shapes around the jaw, which are custom made.

As for recommended rigging, if you're using Blender, I'd say "Humane Rigging", which can be found on YouTube. You can also look up several character creation tuts that go into detail of how rigging works. And that should be true for any program you want to use (Maya, Blender, 3DS/Max, what have you).

Coming from xsi it looks its rigging to a bunch of curves(brows/nose/around the eyes/lips) and some blendshapes(mouth/blinks)
Basically you make some blendshapes and then lay out curves on top for further modification, if you want to send it to a game engine then you would skin to nulls constrained to curves.

I won't defend anything, but I checked out those 2 posts and they are both retarded. The guy whines about how he can't find a subdiv modifier - well how about looking at the left or the right sidebar first, you know, where they can usually be found? In every program you are, you'll need to hover over the icons to see what they are representing, because you can't fit all of those descriptions in the UI. How about hovering over those icons on the right then? One icon is clearly called "object modifiers". People just want to find reasons to bitch about something, it's pathetic and not funny at all.

It being unique is exactly what I love about it, because I prefer its workflow. I'm not saying it's easy to learn, it probably isn't (I personally didn't have any problems and can't understand it, but it's not about me), but I believe that once you get used to it, you'll see how good the UI actually is.

I still can't agree that it's that much harder for beginners compared to the rest of the programs. I've seen comments about how they have to watch tutorials for the smallest things, but let me tell you, I didn't figure out Modo's "drop tool" or "nothing is selected = everything is selected" or "double click in polygon mode to select the object" either without a video tutorial. Same with Maya and its shortcuts for a bunch of different pie menus you have to navigate through with your mouse in order to change viewports and use basic modeling functions.

I went to Blender only with experience in Hammer and SolidWorks, without knowing what a subdiv or modifier is at all, without knowing anything about tris, quads, etc. After a few tutorials, after watching mastering modelling in blender workshop, after modelling with it for a while, doing different kinds of modelling, except sculting, animation, particle systems, rigging, etc, blender now feels very fucking fast compared to most software for whatever.
Blender has problems, but its not the UI, it's that it has no material/object library(only stupid shitty plugins), shitty particle system, that works half of the time and it's too modular.
Tbh, I once tried 3dsmax and hated the fucking UI, I've used autocad for a long time and tried Inventor, seems autodesk just puts the same UI on every fucking software.
Blender's ui is a steep climb, but it's customizable, so I don't understand what people's problem about it is? I bet they tried it for 2 hours without watching any tutorials and just gave up.
