There's lots of threads here that are utterly pointless, but there's no real rule against making them.

This board would literally be two threads if WIP actually had to be posted in the WIP thread (if you discount all the shill threads). Ironically, it would be a lot better that way, but either management or our janitor just doesn't give a crap and it's a free-for-all on this nearly-abandoned board.

Anyway, self-moderation on /3/ sucks and we should try to do a better job of shunning people into posting in the WIP thread to keep these useless one-offs to a minimum, instead of them being most of the board.

when learning blender, the first few donuts can be difficult, but then when you get the hang of the interface something will click and you'll be making better and better donuts in no time.
after about a year, you'll compare your current donut to this first donut and be blown away by the difference in quality.

yes, here are my suggestions.
i made pic related (its not the best i can make, i only invested an hour on it)

>turn off global illumination, use only point lights
>point lights are only effective starting from 1000 strength (in cycles)
>the camera is too close, try playing with the camera settings, mainly FOV
>use the principald shader for all of your materials, no exception
>if you you want to use global illumination only, download an hdri image and use that

cycles nodes:
>subsurface scattering is probably good for things like food, mainly the bread
>use color ramp and mixgrb nodes to add some color variation, add mapping and texture coordinates to control it (i can probably pull an example)
>displacement and a little bit of sculpting adds realism, but only use it if you actually learned it
>play around with the shapes, make the chocolate drip more, make the bun fatter, can use inflate/deflate in blender.
i have more examples of food i made using nodes, if you want post your discord

Are you using dyntopo? If so it's difficult to pinpoint the problem, it could be any number of things.

Generally if you are using a clean base mesh without any mistakes in it you should be able to keep your mesh under control by enabling a high enough sculpt detail level with one of the collapse edges modes toggled on.

If you continue to have problems you may want to consider switching to modelling a good base mesh and using the multi-res modifier instead. As long as the base mesh is good, you shouldn't be able to screw up the mesh while using multi-res.

Protip: on your Render settings panel, go all the way down to Performance, tick Progressive Render to get a preview of how your render will look like. If it looks passable, cancel the render, untick Progressive Render, let it render out fully. (or you can just let the Progressive Render go until all noise is eliminated and cancel it to save. Progressive renders will save their final state if you cancel them midway.)
Alternatively, numpad-0 to switch to your camera view, shift-z to enter render preview, it'll preview your scene with your depth of field settings too.
If you're spending 12+ hours on a render, either you're running a shit tier computer or you don't have Blender optimised. If you have a GPU, go to User Preferences, System, Cycles Compute Device. Nvidia cards use CUDA, AMD cards use OpenCL. It's also strongly recommended you render with denoising enabled. Find a sweet spot between your number of samples and the denoising intensity.

The icing and sprinkles are fine, but the scene's a little bit dark, dough looks like a toy and the sprinkles on the dish are a presentation issue. You wouldn't use that green dish for icing and sprinkles and then also use it to serve. If it were a plate with a sandwich on it, it'd be fine to have crumbs or bits of cheese on the plate, because sandwiches do fall apart, and it's not uncommon for people to savagely use only one plate when making them.

His advice on fixing your topography for looking for weird lighting had me check and I found this weird pinch.
What is this. What are those black spots. I think theyre faces but I can't select them and I don't see anything that should be making a face in the wire frame

>> No.632607

>>632606
Have you tried zooming into them, seeing what happens? If they grow bigger, perhaps they are a window to a better world without Blender. This might be your last chance at salvation, anon.

How much practice does it take for the basics to be ingrained in your small brain? I just want to be good enough that I can make shit on my own without tutorials.

Just experiment my man. Once you've got the fundamentals like navigating the viewport and switching between object and edit mode, the rest is just doing a quick search whenever you get stuck.
