Word.

So what program do you use to model that you think is good?

I'll take up where OP left off if people throw out some inorganic objects to bang out.
>inb4 lol typical inorganic
I work with CAD(you know, a real "proper program") not mashing triangles together. Although this was a good thread until half the people getting in on it decided to go straight to blender vs their autism.

>> No.588537

>this was a good thread
No need for this thread when you have blender general
>until half the people getting in on it decided to go straight to blender vs their autism.
come on, that was literally 2 posts

P.S. stop taking the bait

>> No.588541

The point is a thread where finishing quickly modeled random objects for some experience to the beginner modeler and entertainment of seeing random shit created for people that usually don't have the time to do so regardless of the program used. We need something ongoing like this in my opinion.
>No need for this thread when you have blender general
>P.S. stop taking the bait
Hah. I could care less. It's entertaining to me to see what people come up with. I don't use a single program 99% of this board uses aside Photoshop anyways. Every board has it, just like /gd/ and Gimp vs PS. If you can't produce you'll always find something to complain about.

modelling is hard

pic related is my first attempt at a character, it's so frustrating not being able to shape boxes into the proper forms

I'm toying with the idea of just mapping out edge flows on a reference, tracing it with vertices and then moving stuff around like that, anybody tried that 'technique'?

>> No.592626

>>592624
Why don't you just sculpt it like everybody else? And then you can watch some tutorial on retopology, or just use some of zbrush's retopology magic. I think sculpting is even easier than what you are doing. And what if you want to add high poly details? Then you're fucked unless you start sculpting over it, in which case all that topology work would be for nothing.

>> No.592627

>>592626
I would like to sculpt but don't you need a fairly decent base mesh beforehand to work with

>> No.592628

>>592627
If you're confident enough, you could even just use a simple sphere, but sure, starting from a base mesh is perfectly fine. The only thing is - you can do it much faster and easier if you use blender's skin modifier. Here, check out this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Tow03mlXQ

CG Cookie has some good character courses which also use skin modifier, so you might want to check that out as well.

Wow, thanks for that. Looks a lot easier than box adjustment

I'll give that a whirl, then - shaping a basic humanoid out of the skin modifier and then sculpting in some (very basic) anatomy to better define it, then retopologising it into something fit for animating

Thanks for the help

Here's a quick update - I've only recently had the chance to play with the skin modifier - haven't done the hands or feet yet. Still, I think it's going well, just need to better define the butt area and then I think I can start sculpting

the modifier is great but god damn if it isn't frustrating to use sometimes
