Should I buy zbrush bros? I want to be legit and industry standard, but I'm also a moderately poor and not currently (((in))) the industry ha ha

No, of course not. A studio will buy you a license, or if you start your own studio you can write off the cost of the license as an expense.

Anybody here tried zBrush Core? The interface looks cleaned up and the price is reasonable. There's even bundles of it with Wacom tablets which is a bargain if you don't have one.

that wacom bundle, if you are going to start zbrushing and have no tablet is so fucking amazing, it's beyond. and also when you have zbrush core, then you can buy Zbrush with discount

oh and people who can not bare Zbrush UI, just don't know how to use it. or are frustrated at sculpying, because it's like drawing, not box modelling
box modelling(at east at some level) is much more technical, you can put pictures of a gun blueprint and be able to make it, or human figure,
sculpting takes entarely different skill and is dramatically different skill, many people just blame that on Zbrush' UI

>> No.587143

How do people even sculpt things like this. Do they create every line manually or just copy it or some shit with a texture/displacement map something like this. It looks fucking impossible

>> No.587146

>>587143
you can say the same about high detailed paintings as well. and detailing is not that impossible, when you get hold of it.
but first you must master general shapes.
this is all hand made, it's not alphas BTW.

Hey, broken English zbrush bootlicker: Everyone you've criticized for that so far has told you that they've got no problem sculpting. Majorly because sculpting is the easiest shit in 3D once you strip away having to learn an interface designed by extraterrestrials.

I run lessons through a local design store and workshops for highschool students and I legit sit 13-16 y/os down in front of Mudbox because it's intuitive enough that they get to sculpting in about 5 minutes, can work out the interface in half an hour and barely even need any help to get there. I can get a teenager from having never even seen the software to sculpting and painting a thing in about an hour and a half, if we're assuming I leave time for them to mess around with the tools. Sculpting is just taking your tablet pen and adding/carving away blobs from a model. All you need to learn how to do is open a file, position the camera, select a brush and sculpt with it. In Mudbox, all these things take no time at all to explain.

I teach ZBrush to adults and teaching them to get the same amount of functionality out of the ZBrush interface takes almost a whole lesson. And that's just teaching the basic interface for navigating and dicking around on a sphere/stock model without horribly breaking everything. I have to take steps to specifically explain how to save something properly in ZBrush, to specifically explain how to start working on a model, I have to force people to un-learn the word "Tool" so that they don't fucking mess up what they're working on while trying to access the sort of shit that every other piece of software on earth calls a "Tool". And most of the people I teach are designers that already know how to use computers and design software - they can't find standard shit because ZBrush uses some bizarre terminology for it and it's tucked away in a menu somewhere. I teach it to other people and I find it awkward and frustrating to work with, with 6 years experience under my belt.

People complain about the interface because it sucks. It sucks not only compared to the interface in any conventional 3D package, but also the interface from any other sculpting package as well.

I'd hop ship if there was an alternative, the big meme is pretending there's nothing wrong with the only worthwhile sculpting package being weighed down by the one thing that should be so easy to get right.

>> No.587259

If you've done any drawing, you'd know that detail is easy. Getting the major shapes to look good is the hard part and it requires a lot of training. Adding all the little lines and details is as trance-like as scribbling mindlessly during class. There are special brushes and maps to make the job faster but they're not crucial.

>> No.587345

>>587246
The UI is fine. If you take the time to just dig in and understand it, that is.

>> No.587380

>>587345
Oh, I understand it. Once you've learned the weird terminology and where all the features are hidden away most of the badness is still concentrated around the navigation and viewport, that both suck pretty badly because it still has the "Canvas with depth" thing going on that absolutely nobody uses it for.

>Should I buy zbrush bros?
No.

Chances are you always remain a hobbyist and nobody will ever care about your pirated software. For the unlikely case you make it into a studio, you will use their license at the work place, which is how Pixologic makes their big money. They don't care about small people pirating. No big developer does.

This is the problem with people that are new to the software. They have the mentality of a max/maya user.

You sculpt it. It just takes years and years of practise to get to a decent level. If this puts you off then zbrush isnt for you

>> No.587890

>>587874
Picking up sculpting is easier to do than any form of traditional modeling.
This is what happens when you get large amounts of legit non-artists getting into 3D art in their 20s with no art background because "It looks technical maybe I'll fail at it less than I did drawing stickfigures".

>> No.587895

>>587890

true

Its easier in terms of being able to learn the technical side of things. But being able to produce good quality work will take years of practise. Anyone can pickup a pencil and draw something, but whether it looks good or not will come down to how many years you've been drawing, and if you have a good understanding of the fundamentals. Alot of people dont seem to grasp that the same things apply for digital sculpting/3d

They also watch videos of people that are really good at it, and think they'll be able to replicate what they do from the get go. Then get frustrated and blame the software
