what is GPL for $500, alex?

The biggest obstacle that prevents Blender from being touched by the majority of developers and the industry. The day they drop it is when you'll see some real development happen in Blender.

>>561733
That's not how it works. Similarly you couldn't just drop GPL for linux

PBR rendering is already in Blender, they'll just make it more like Unreals.

what we really need is UDIM support so I don't have to do some next level UV placement to get it to work in substance painter.

I heard recently about new features in cycles engine like "denoiser" and something else https://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?419704-The-latest-additions-to-cycles-has-made-it-nearly-real-time-in-certain-scenarios which makes real good speedups in renders from about 16 hours to 16 minutes. I'm interested, will it be available in 2.8? Currently I'm working on Linux and I can't find any working version of this build.

It's a series of hacks and dirty tricks. It's impressive in some simple cases, but I doubt it's much fun if you try to use it in production. You will often run into cases where you get weird artifacts or other unwanted results.

I'm not a Blenderfag but if the Cycles denoiser is anything like the new Renderman denoiser it's pretty comfy desu.

I think on /3 posting only virtual girls should be allowed. They are far more perfect anyway than meatbags.

Not him but this girl is way better than something you would find in the daz general. Her animations are great too, if a little cringy.

GPL does not prevent anyone from using blender, because neither plugins you write with it nor any 3D models or images you create with it are affected by the license of the software.

by the way, the GPL only applies to distribution of the software, so even if you want to change how core-parts of blender work (you can't of course even do this with maia et al), as long as you only use the changes in-house, you don't even need to publish them, because the GPL does not apply to such a scenario.
