I am willing to pay someone to make me the girl Splatoon character.

I need a adult sexualized female rendition of this character. Textured and same pose as pic on left.

The body should have curves kinda like this.

pretty much, but not just on da. You can absolutely get high level or even sometimes professional level work for cheap if you shop around a little.

Real professionals have very little free time and generally have fairly high paying jobs so unless you personally know them they want a ton for commission work. Yet there are tons of 3d hobbyists who would gladly take the job for very little money and deliver comparable results. especially the people who don't explicitly offer commissions.

What I got out of this conversation, $250 dollars for 2 days work to produce something along the same lines, but not quite as professionally polished as the studio made reference.

And people are saying this is too much.

It really isn't. Break it down to how much you want to be paid per hour for your work. 2 days, assuming 8 hour days, is 16 hours. 250 / 16 = 15.625 an hour. 15 an hour isn't a lot for an artist to get. A professional studio artist would charge much much more than that.

If it's a question of quality vs price, then that's up to the client to determine if they think it's worth it. But at that price, they could always ask the artist to continue working on it to address notes or push it to be that much better.

In comparison, I'm sure the studio that created the characters from the game and original image, have paid their artists more than that per hour, and gave them more time to do it. As well as a lot of notes and creative direction from supervisors that have more experience.

So I say zst shouldn't be discouraged from his pricing and should continue working like this, trying to get better with every model.

I don't really know yet, that's the problem. I've been trying to find out what people charge for commissions, and that's what's been frustrating me - this was the first thread people actually responded to the question (it just wasn't mine).

I had hoped for about $50-60 a model. Untextured, unrigged - I can do all that. I just can't get people shapes right when I try to model. Fairly generic anime-ish type characters in low-poly, with basic face details. One male, one female.

My idea is, I'm trying to write something for a friend that will be printed up in a book format. I can kind of model anyway, just not people - 16 years and it frustrates me no end I can see it in my head but I can't make anything organic look halfway decent (but then, I'm only a hobby modeler at best). Concept behind the story is it's set inside an MMO, so once I have some generic bodies and faces, I can edit the hell out of them for the various characters for interior and cover art. Any format would have to be readable in max.

Even if not commissions, if anyone knew where I could find models similar to what I'm talking about - ripped models form a game in that kind of style, whatever - I'd appreciate pointers. I have tried using some 3d ripping software to pull scenes from games but I didn't have any luck at the time, which I found most disappointing.

>>481670
I'm not looking for 15-30 hours of work, though. I do see more than a few people on here model up what I am looking for in exceedingly short amounts of time, and as I said I'm not looking for rigging or texturing, clothes, equipment. I just need some relatively basic, neutral models with faces. I wouldn't think a single model like that would be in the $250+ range.

>> No.481804

>>481740
ah well rigging is really what takes forever.
The OP wanted a model that was textured and rigged just so he could have one picture.

If you just want a single, unwrapped, unrigged mesh then that's like 3-5 hours of work at most for a complex model.

I could do that for $60/model, provided you already have a design. I could design them too but I'd charge for that.

Charging so little will hurt you in the long run unless you live in philippines or india. And even there they charge like 15 or 20 bucks per hour. 200-250 per day. A character can easily go for 3000 or 4000 usd.

I think the problem is OP doesnt want to monetize the character. In real life, a studio will pay you good money for the character because they will make millions with the game/movie.

OP just wants to fap with it.

To be fair the splatoon girl is stupidly simple to model, maybe 1 or 2 days tops, and if you just want that single pose you could use zbrush for that.so 3 days plus 1 day for the shaders and render.

~960 bucks for a studio. OP if you want stupid prices you best go hunting in india and philippines sites. they will do it for like 100 bucks and love you long time.

For a sculpt it's possible, for the whole rig (unless its a shared rig) and painting and shaders it would take some extra weeks. These are 8 hour days, which in studio production usually take extra hours well into the night.

When I was in studio production, it usually took about 12 hours a day. Sometimes even more. Under those conditions we could make about 1 character per week.

Not saying it's impossible but from experience it takes longer. Perhaps with new programs like substance painter and designer it might make the texturing easier. The rig usually takes forever. (keep in mind these were movie characters so the rig was much more complex than game characters and so were the shaders).

But for that kind of character I would like to take at least 7 days in the modeling. It can be done in 3 or 4 IMO, but it won't be top notch. Secondary characters perhaps.

But at the moment, all I'm looking for is prices, because it's a little way off yet and I'm wanting to see what I'd be up for if I didn't intend on slamming my dick in a door repeatedly trying to do it myself.

All these people being surprised that a model might take a week to make and thinking 1400 bucks is too much.

You are not paying for a product, you are used to pay small amount of money for models and other products because they are mass produced (or intended to make a profit through selling to multiple customers) and that's the only way they can charge so little.

This is a career niggers, people gotta eat and if that person is going to dedicate a week of his time for your one of a kind single payment model you better not be surprised it costs like hiring someone. Sure you might get cheaper prices in non developed countries but generally speaking even people in those countries that know that are good, will not cut prices that much because they know they are still top of the line. Plenty of 2d artists for whom art is their hobby rather than their job charge much less than what a processional 2d artist does when taking on commissions - I made the assumption most of the hobbyists here would be people who work and, you know, do 3d as a hobby rather than taking on commissions as a job, and thus would price somewhat similar. My guesstimate was based on about 3x what most of the 2d artists I was seeing charge, and that was for "increased" workload in making a 3d model.

I say "increased" because it isn't actually all that increased, it's more just a different skillset.

And, I also know I would be up for a lot more if I was asking for a completed character - texturing, rigging, etc. I'm not asking for that, though, and have pointed that out a couple of times.

I've just gone through the folder of references I keep, and the closest I can find is the attached, except slightly less stylised and not quite as detailed. Also, no costume, equipment, etc - just a neutral genital-less nude model of a generic male and a female.

Hell, if I could find a link of PSO2 models that were usable, I'd pull them apart and use them because the basic character meshes seem to be similar to what I want.

Cry about it.

Or to put it another way "60 dollars is going to buy you a model I spent less than 5 hours on"

It seems moot though. Neither the op nor this mysterious second person is serious about spending any amout of money for any amount of work.

I think the ones that start as a hobby and actually get good realize how much time it takes to get good at it and decide to go part time or full time freelancer since they know it sells well. For the model you want OP I recommend you learn to do it yourself, it's not hard.

You can make a quick fully realized sketch in 15 minutes and polish it out in 1h
you cant make shit in 15 minutes in 3d, even sculpting in zbrush wont wont be that fast, at most you will get few silhouettes tried out or basic forms in if you know what you want to do

there is a reason concept art is done on 2d, and with help of 3d software for environmental designs to paint over, 3d is just too slow

i mean if you do 3d yourself you should perfectly know how slow it is, dunno what you expected
its not like everybody besides you have magical powers and do shit 100x faster

I'm the "mysterious second person", and I wasn't looking to spend it now. My original contribution to the thread was I had asked in a few places on /3/ and /toy/ whether anyone had pricings on commissions, and every post was bluntly ignored, and that a guy asked in this thread and got answers.

I was happy to see the answers, and then wanted to see what I was up for if that was the route I went down for what I'm looking at.

I can fake the rest of the body easy enough, I guess, but I've been modelling on and off since 97 and I just cannot get faces and heads looking right at all. Which is why I was looking for pricing, because if it was going to be affordable that would have been the option I'd have taken.

And to be fair, there were a couple of people mentioning work in the range I'd originally thought for what I wanted, and then a couple of people who started yelling that I should be giving them a week's salary, presumably for a model that's not what I was asking for judging by the number of times texturing and rigging and discussions of detail came up. The fact they kept harping on about that when it wasn't what I was asking, and the implication was they knew better about what I wanted than what I actually wanted.

But thank you, you took me seriously and discussed on what I was asking. I am at best a couple of months away from making a decision, but I like getting information ahead of time if I can. It was greatly appreciated, but thanks to a couple of other posters I do remember now why I hated posting anything on /3/.

>>482295
And no, it's not, but I have had enough friends do 3d and having watched them and what they can do in a very short time... that's what I was basing my estimates on. And as I said, I'd been asking what people had been charging for a while but I just wasn't getting any replies, so I had no clue what to go on.

Nope, that just shows a lack of understanding about how material surfaces work in real life. Any decent ray-tracer gives you the parameters to create the type of solid or surface you need. Rubber for example would be an SSS material, but with the SSS effect toned down a lot and with usually medium to low glossiness and some sort of rough texture added to it.

Most renderers come with a skin material for you to use, hair as well.

You just have to think about how the light in real life is reacting with the material and adjust parameters to match that behavior (and create any input texture to create the surface material variance needed, like if you polished one part of the metal but not it all, you'd need to make a texture to increase the glossiness and reflectivity in that area.)

NIgga, that is how capitalism works.

But still, you are right. All these modelers are a weird bunch of basement fucks who practice hard and give a dollar amount that they haven't seen in years. The dollar amount is practically nothing compared to what they could offer. They're just scared and not willing to try for higher at first. The other side has already learned how to use capitalism and find the cheapest deal, the modeler side learns too slow and undersells a very rare and special skill.
