Brand new to 3dcg. I plan to just learn as i go.

My question to you guys is, do i need to use the same engine that the devs used for the game with any mods i make?

For example, would i be able to use unreal engine or blender to craft an object for a game that runs on source engine?

Blender is not an engine. unreal is not an editor. You might need to read up a bit. The sticky is nice.

Google instructions for creating items for steam workshop with blender.

Actually, it's considered good manners to google anything before asking in some site.

That is all.

Blender is used to create stuff, it also has a game engine that nobody uses.
Unreal, Unity, Cry, Source etc are engines that you use to make games with the 3D models you made in Blender (or Maya, 3DS, etc). You can also use them to view how your model would look like in a game.
Anyway, please read the sticky.

He should have specified: Blender isn't an engine that anybody cares about.
