Hello /3/,

So I I am in a team where a fgt was supposed to model some robot legs. This is what he delivered.

Now, this kid has been stealing other peoples work before and I definitely want to expose this little shit, I am 99% sure he did not make this.

Question is, apart from Google, where would you look for a free 3d model which you believe has been "stolen"? Thank you.

TF3DM

>> No.471590

Well, i'm bored and have nothing to do; time to start hunting.

I've looked on TurboSquid and TF3DM, no luck yet.

>>471590
Thanks anon, when I find shits going down for him. I will update.

>> No.471592

what's the story? if you know he steals already how is he in the team lol.

>>471588
Ask him for the original 3D file he 'worked on'.

If the object is stolen it will likely be in one whole piece, if he worked on it there should be several separate pieces.

His defense will probably be "I combined all of them and saved the file", so this idea may not work.

Here's a good idea.

Tell him you love his modelling skills. Suck up to him. Then when his ego is big enough get him to make a model just as good as it.

If he modeled it, he will be more than happy to 'please a fan'.

If he didn't model it he will blindly refuse.

Well as you would expect, this is a school project.

We were due to deliver a music video for another class, this nigga ripped a video project from a locally known youtuber and managed to make it worse with a little editing. Now, a friend noticed and told me I suggested the video looked "similar" in class (immediately he starting begging us for mercy through text messages lol).
Anyways, that time It only involved him and besides, you know how teachers notice when you really didn't make something? Well teacher didn't seem to care much. So we just sat there feeling shame for him.

Now, this friend of mine has been suspecting of him for a long time. And I know for a fact he can't model this, let alone in 2 days. He has given me several headaches through this last month.
When asked to model the hand of the robot he delivered something close to pic related, yes he pretended to rigg that, it's laughable.

Thing is now, this is a project I have spent several hours on and will continue to do so (it's going to my portfolio), just so this kid comes, blatantly steals something and claim he made it?

This is a long project and teams were chosen 2 months ago, back then I would not believe he was capable of such shitty practices. If I can find this model on the web or prove something by looking at the mesh, trust me, shits going down.

>>471593

Lol he would definitely pull something like that, we are talking about a professional bullshit artist. That's why I need irrefutable proof, anon.

Or you first say "i've seen that before on x website", or something similar, when he denys it, then say "show me the working file, then", and instead of him having no reason to show you, or some lame excuse, he will have to to defend your accusation.

>> No.471598

>>471596
Here's the thing. The kid sounds like a lost cause.

The best thing you can do is to praise him as much as possible. Convince everyone that thinks he can do good work he is amazing.

If he has no skills (he obviously doesn't) it will show. If everyone has extremely high standards of somebody who can't give them, he's gonna know it. Either he has to admit his bullshit, or he will continue to try and run this facade and fail in front of every single person.

This is the best way to ruin a person.

>>471595

Hah! Will do this if I can't find the original model. I imagine asking him to show me how he made a part of the leg.

Or to show me anything he has done before that matches this modelling level.

As an addition, this is one of the worst things you could do to somebody. Good thing he deserves it.

Manipulation is a really strong tactic, just don't be too obvious with your praise.

Compliment his "work" saying you like it, shit like that. You don't want him to notice anything odd, but you will get him on your side.

Once everything happens and people think he's an amazing artist people will want him to make stuff as good, if not better. This is obviously something he cannot do. At this point you turn on him, get people to realize he is a fake (they will have noticed by them due to the lack of good material he is producing).

He won't trust people again. I wouldn't feel bad for him. Leeching off other people's hard work is the worst fucking thing to do in the art industry.

Worst thing is he's a decent 2d artist, he just doesn't give a fuck and, as many anons here correctly inferred, has a massive ego.

You know what sucks about all of this? I actually need him to work. There's a shitload of things to do and we don't have much time, I'm making all the 3d side of things alone.

So yeah, I will approach the situation like you guys suggest, but I will still need to do the real legs myself. Eh whatever, more practice for me.

You still may try and check out the meta-data.
You may even get both the website where it was found and the name of the comp/account of the original autor and date of creation.
But I'd not ask for it directly, I'd rather sneak it out.
That'd do the whole job.
In fact that'd be the whole reason to put meta-data into a 3D file.

http://meta-extractor.sourceforge.net/

In not sure of the functionality of this trick. It should still do the trick.

I really appreciate it anon, but I can't accept help there.
All I can ask you guys is to help me expose this guy, I'm tired of his shit and I'm usually a patient guy.

>>471602
Is there really a way to check metadata for a 3d file? Or maybe retrieve other kind of data that shows where, when or how the mesh was made... that would me amazing.

>> No.471619

>>471606
Well, there is some basic meta-data that should be available. AFAIK, I'm pretty sure about Unix-based OSes, dunno 'bout MS's.

Yet, from the link I posted earlier:

"If a file type is unknown the tool applies a generic adapter, which extracts data that the host system 'knows' about any given file (such as size, filename, and date created)."

I think it worth a shot at it.
If you can wait a bit, I'm not at home, can't try much at work.

Mexico. No, we are not working on Theiser.

>>471625
You're right, thanks.

Yes it is. Showing it so you can see where he got the inspiration for the hand model.

Heres another concept so you can see how much the legs look alike.
