I'm loosing my shit right here. Am I too hard with critique or is this just really bad art?

Well, art is a pretty subjective term. One mans Mona Lisa might just be a smear of shit on a blank canvas.

Ok, if some bulky yoshi with bad anatomy, bad texture, bad ms-paint skills, bad rendering and bad pose qualifies as art, I'm out of the game...

Look at it! I'ts clearly just for someones fetish, this has nothing to do with art in any fucking way!

People like you are the reason why a dude could make a picture of his asshole and sell it for 30000000$!

Art is about skill, mostly in 3D. This piece of shit lacks any form of skill other than spamming the bloat brush over a basemesh, some generic polypaint and mad ms paint finish!

no, people like him are not the reason you can call a bag of trash in the middle of the floor art.

all he was saying is that art is subjective and judging by the way he said "a smear of shit on a blank canvas" it doesnt sound like he's giving praise to the creator either.

just because this guy gave yoshi the body of that fat black woman from the payless shoes commercial and the autists on deviant art praised him, doesnt mean that he'll get a job in 3d design.

lol why did you even bring this to /3/?

>> No.429104

>>429102

Because I can't rely on my own critique anymore. I can't tell anymore if a model/sculpture/scene is good looking or not because even shit like this yoshi is considered good now.

Show this thing to Ryan Kingslien, with the comment "Fuck anatomy, I do things my way!". Go and tell him everything he does and how sophisticated with anatomy is wrong because his art is in the same level as this yoshi. Because "HURR ART IS SUBJECTIV DURR!".

I don't know how to tell if something looks good or not because of shit like this!

What drives me up the wall is how "anatomy" has just become this buzzword plebs on the internet use to try and sound like they know anything about art. Anatomy isn't some sort of list of rules you have to follow, and it certainly isn't the consideration of whether or not your drawing cold live in the real world. It's about understanding forms so that you can represent them more accurately.

It's his designs that are gross and stupid looking. It looks bad because it's poorly conceived and poorly portrayed. It's not his anatomy that's the problem it's "his way".

To determine whether something is or is not art is not the purpose of a critique. Also a critique is not an opinion it is an analysis. It's not even in the same domain as "I like this" and "I don't like this" So it doesn't matter if some deviantards heap praise on one another. Twilight's also a best selling novel. IT shouldn't affect your critique.

There will always be social justice warriors and other various politically correct dumbshits who are willing to praise anything and everything no matter how terrible.

The fact that you are able to recognize this masturbatory special snowflake "art" as commercially worthless is a good thing that you should be proud of. It means you at least have the right mentality and potential for someone that can become a decent artist.

Rather than getting butthurt over how pathetic wannabes are, just be glad you aren't one of them.

>> No.429200

Thanks.

I'm off my rage now, but that's exactly what bugged me so much. All these social butterflies with their "If you don't have compliments, say nothing at all." bullshit are so irritating because it devalues real critique!

OP, he is obviously using a program like Make Human to generate these shit models... Why even bother giving him critique? He's just some kid with a weird fetish generating hilarious models.

Also, unless people ask for critique or are posting in a thread that's specifically meant for critique... It's not an invitation for critique, so again, why bother when it wasn't asked for lol.

Yeah. I mean it. And if you want to sound maximum stupid you throw in "proper" in front of it.

Anatomy, in the context of visual art, is misused approximately 100% of the time on the internet. The main reason artists learn anatomy is to understand the forms underneath skin so that we can extrapolate how light should fall across them. Another reason is to learn land marks to help with figure drawing. Knowing things like the tip of the pubic triangle is half the height of a typical human, or that the skin on the knees, elbows, and great trochantor is subcutaneous.

The last reason artists learn anatomy, and this is the closest approximation to how it's used on the internet, is to learn design principles. That is, not a set of rules, but a collection of ideas which are "normal" and the consequences of deviating from them. The length of a fullgrown man's arms from finger tip to finger tip is the same was his full height. Does that you mean you HAVE to make the arms that length? That's "wrong" to do so otherwise? No, anatomy simply teaches that if the arms are longer or shorter than this length then the average person is going to notice it. That might be what you want. That's what design is all about. Directing attention. If I make an alien with a freaky head, and I want people to be focused on the head, then I make them rest of him fulfill anatomical expectations. Arms and legs in the assumed locations fly under the radar. When you have a foot for a tongue, or no elbows, it gets noticed.

So this idiot on deviant art made a freaky yoshi with crazy anatomical features. There are so many reasons why it's terrible, but anatomy isn't it.

It could just as easily be an autistic dude in his college years.
