Try to guess which software I’m using and whether I’m using Global Illumination or not.

incorrect

Forgive me for salvaging a pointless thread, but what are /3/'s opinions on non-GI rendering? Is there any merit in learning to light scenes without it?

you can do a lot without gi or even "correct" lighting. See futurama.

Most broadcast packages don't use GI. If you've ever got your hands on an ESPN or FOX Sports ident scene file you'll find more lights than actual polygonal objects.

wish I could get my hands on that file

It isn't that impressive. Most of the work is done in post.

If it was Blender they wouldn't have said Global Illumination, instead either enviroment lighting or ambient occlusion.

What? Blender doesn't have GI?

blender is lucky to have illumination PERIOD.

Pointing out the flaws in a piece of software, especially when said software is so often touted by nubs, is not a bad thing.

Hold up guys.
I just checked what Global Illumination is, and it seems to be the same as, or at least give the same results as Blender's Indirect Lighting.

Just to clear things up, Blender's internal renderer does not have global illumination nor is indirect approximation "basically the same." There was a branch created for Sintel that used global illumination but it was scrapped because Blender internal's code was a clusterfuck and it was too slow, leading them to just create a new renderer from scratch, Cycles.

You may resume your shitposting.

Illustrator. This is vector, not 3D
