My power went out yesterday and Max CORRUPTED FIVE FUCKING HOURS WORTH OF WORK.
I SAVED RIGHT BEFORE THE OUTAGE BUT THE FILE STILL GOT FUCKING CORRUPTED

This. Don't open up and start working on something because autoback files will overwrite whatever you did last time in max. There are 3 autoback files by default which saves your work with 10 minute intervals. Check all of them, continue working where you last left it.

these will be most likely be corrupted as well since they rely on the regular save function

with max you always wanna save and reopen your scene
if that doesn't work you know its corrupted but since its still open you can successfully export your stuff as fbx or whatever
