Well but you put a word along your post so technically yours is a post with more effort put into it!

I am engineer who does 3D design as my job, as well as does some creative 3D stuff as a hobby.

It's a completely different skillset. 3D design is about making a scaled model of something that's actually going to be built. Ultimately the 3D model is useful but half of the work is creating engineering drawings detailing how it will be built, how it is to be installed, what materials to order etc. The pieces of paper is ultimately what you're being paid to deliver, the model is just there to help you make a piece of paper.

I'd like it the difference between a watchmaker and an artist who does miniature sculptures. You could argue yes, there is some overlap in skills they are ultimately two different processes for two different deliverables.

Yes it's a good career. You need an associate's in the field but for the most part you won't just be treated like a CAD monkey who does what the engineers tell you. I made 80k a year doing this even before I finished my engineering degree

Mint because I seriously have had enough of the increasing fucking bullshit Microshaft was pulling with their OS. The constant nagging, dumbing everything down to absolute retard level, constant design changes to the worse, fucking everything.
I chose some vanilla ass distro because I'm not in for becoming the next RMS, I just wanted to set up things to fit exactly my needs and not get fucking annoyed all the time when I work.
Pretty much all programs I need work perfectly, especially since Wine got actually good.
There's a lot of tinkering involved, that is absolutely true and it is not for everyone but if you like that you can get everything tailored to your needs and then just work without having to fuck around with stuff again.

Does /3/ EVER achieve anything or is this board's sole purpose to endlessly shit on tools and otherwise do nothing?
