shortcut key a selects everything in object mode and shift s to snap to grid. When I mean each vert I don't mean individually if that's what you're implying. Also another thing if you didn't know is that snapping can be disabled if you're holding down ctrl while moving verts/edges/faces (the inverse is true if snapping is disabling and you move while ctrl is held down). What probably happened is that you were moving verts and must've pressed ctrl somewhere along the line without realizing it.
