I see some artists sculpt something without automatic mirroring instead of getting everything done and afterwards posing it and making asymmetric changes to break up uniformity. Why? It seems to me like a huge waste of time.

This is why the more the crappy modern art becomes popular there is a higher value yet again put on art which is technically amazing.
Go to art station and show me top pick and popular art that dosnt stand out in regard to ether composition, technical fidelity or anatomical perfection.
Its not technique that is valued, its mastery over an art form, over your style, no matter what form it takes, be it sculpting, drawing, or even more precise field like 3d architectural design or anatomy studies. Hell this applies to writing or even movie making.
You image shows no mastery in any field, just an ugly mess of awkward composition and overblown brightness and a hint of distracting eye catching nipples, which is really the only thing you eyes can set on.
