I'm aware. But I don't think simulation is necessary. It's costly and unwieldy. There's too much randomness. Setting up animation every time you want to test movement slows workflow down to a snail's pace.

Look at what I can do with three bones and automatic weight paint. Preserve volume turned off. A bendy bone is used at the joint to correct the deformation. I added a subdivide surface modifier to smooth it out, but if you were making this optimally, you would just add a couple loops near the middle of the joint and effective get the same result.

It's not a perfect squeeze. It's intersecting. But it's an acceptable intersection. It *could* be a perfect squeeze, if there was a better way to inform the vertices to move how we want them to move. No simulation required, just smarter math.
